After a long and tiring workday, my wife and I decided to stop by this neighborhood ice cream shop for a little treat. We were the only customers there, aside from two women sitting inside.
We asked the server if we could try the chocolate flavor, and before I could even say what I wanted, an older woman with a French accent interrupted us in a rather unpleasant tone: “Because of policy and the shop being busy, you can only have two samples each.”
The shop wasn’t busy at all, but during the entire time we were trying to choose, this woman kept staring at us as if we had come just to take advantage of the samples.
When we finally got our ice cream, the flavors were overly sweet, and the way it was served felt unfriendly. It was also quite obvious that the staff were working under the pressure of that harsh and unkind woman.
Overall, what we hoped would be a simple, sweet experience unfortunately left us disappointed.

Staff are wonderful and the changing monthly flavours are fantastic. Though my ultimate fave is the spicy chocolate.
Update. The flavours are so good, I had to go back and get more!!

La Glace is the best escape in Vancouver! Luxurious ice cream, dreamy Parisian vibes, and unforgettable flavors.
I tried a Double Scoop of Passion Tropical Sorbet and Vanilla Bean. The flavour and quality of the ice cream was amazing, and I loved how they put a tiny but lovely merengue on top of the ice cream when the ice cream was being served. The service was good and efficient. The ice cream shop interior is apparently properly taken cared of and has a relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, the ice cream shop offers some tables and chairs to enjoy the ice cream outside of the shop itself.

I found this ice cream at Meinhardts and bought it without realizing it was a local brand with its own storefront. Having said that, I was extremely disappointed. I bought the Bananes Foster, which was described as banana cream with a toffee swirl. Not so much. There was no toffee swirl to be found, just small bits of unidentified chewy something or other throughout. And the ice cream tasted bland, with a texture that seemed full of air, not a handcrafted dense artisanal ice cream. For the price I paid, I expected something heavenly, not flavor limbo.

Easily the best ice cream in Vancouver, I really don’t get why there aren’t massive lines here when it’s so much better than the usual spots people flock to. The macaron caramel brûlée is my favourite. Everything feels really thoughtfully made and extra in the best way. The shop itself is a vibe, and there’s a little patio out front that’s perfect for sitting on a nice day. It’s honestly one of those places you kind of want to keep to yourself, but it’s just too good to gatekeep.

Our recent visit to this ice cream shop with my family, intended as a sweet treat, was anything but. We were met with an overwhelmingly negative demeanor from the staff, making it clear we won't be returning. From dismissive eye rolls to insincere smiles and condescending tones, the customer service was profoundly disappointing. One should not have to endure such unpleasantness, especially when seeking a moment of enjoyment. This unfortunate experience, following a similarly poor one previously, indicates a consistent issue with the establishment's atmosphere and the disposition of its employees.
