got a few items, liked the soft shell crab & duck salad the most. Steak luc lac / prawn fritters were so so. Crab fried rice was also 4/5.

The only thing I don’t love about The Lunch Lady is that it isn’t closer to Calgary! Everything else was absolutely top notch. The food, the service, and the overall vibe were outstanding.
Our server recommended the three-layer dessert, and it was phenomenal. I’ve been craving that pandan coffee, which quickly became a favourite. Every dish was just as impressive as the last. No wonder there was a lineup of people outside.
We’ll definitely be back whenever we’re in Van!

This restaurant is constantly leaving latex black gloves littered on the street. Their employees stepping over them rather than picking them up. That one glove sat there for about 8 hours as you can see from the time stamp. The oozing bags of garbage left outside the door are also a treat!
Updated: A wonderful trail of garbage juice running up the sidewalk for all to step in.
Had a spectacular experience at The Lunch Lady a few weeks ago. I was there as a walk-in with a large party of friends from out of town (I lined up 20mins before they opened) and were able to get seated at the bar relatively fast.
The 2-person family style menu is a perfect way to get to know The Lunch Lady. It’s well-paced and thoughtfully crafted with diverse flavours and textures. The carpaccio is a must-try, I think about it all the time.
My main reason for writing this review weeks later is to highlight the amazing service. I have a peanut allergy and wasn’t able to try a sip of my friend’s pandan coffee (due to it coming into contact with nuts from their food). The server/bartender noticed immediately and offered to make me a small glass of it for free just to try! We were all so stunned and appreciative of this gesture. He also gave our group a complementary second dessert to share because he noticed we couldn’t split one evenly amongst us.
Truly an unforgettable experience. I will always recommend The Lunch Lady for amazing food and attentive service!

This is a very famous Vancouver spot that’s very hard to get a seat in without a reservation. They clearly have a sense of their own popularity: the woman barked that “you can only stay till 7:30” once we arrived. The food was fine. It was nothing special. The menu is more interesting and unique than what you’d see at typical Vietnamese place, but I don’t think I’d go through all the hassle of trying to get a table again — especially at these prices. I feel it’s basically overrated.

I booked a table for Thursday night on Yelp but since there are no option for inside table so I called on Monday asking for a reservation for 3 girls with inside table , i called again on Wednesday to add in 1 more girl and to confirm again it is for an inside table , but she told me there are no inside table available, i was shocked since i did get a confirm on Monday from a gentleman that there is 1 inside table available for us . The conversation goes back&forth and the lady did not want to do anything about it, that was very irresponsible, i’ve been to this restaurant a few times and never get 1 good service from them yet i had never complain but this is the end of it. I’m done!

One of the top places on my list of restaurants to visit but a tad disappointed with how things went.
First off, ambience is decent, nothing special and they have a narrow heated patio where we were seated - chairs could have been more comfortable.
Diving straight into food:
1. Pork Belly Skewers: expected more flavor and fattier/tender cuts of meat since it is the belly but was let down (6.5/10)
2. Garlic fried xo noodles: was really excited for this but it was nothing special, no bursts of flavor and was actually the dish we didn't even end up finishing, can/have made similar noodles at home (6/10)
3. Steak luc lac: another one that I was really looking forward to try and finally the flavors in this one did not disappoint, really delicious sauce on the steak, steak cut up into cubes but the cook was not medium rare as ordered (it was a bit over), came with some type of fries which were extremely good especially dipped in the steak sauce! (8.5/10)
4. Vietnamese cold coffee: one word - EXCELLENT - must try (10/10)
5. Pandan cake - coconut ice cream was a solid 10 and the rest of it was really tasty too with a mochi like cake and a crispy outside and a tangy coulis - not too sweet (9/10)
It was really the service and the behavior of the staff that really stood out more than anything! Although a few things went wrong this night, the staff were extremely warm and made the experience really enjoyable!

The broth was not as rich and fulfilling as the past experiences.
