Discovered this spot on last visit to Vancouver. No frills, straight up udon place that delivers pretty decent value. You order at the counter, canteen-style, it's quick and satisfying. My curry udon was good, noodles had good chew and the broth was decent.

An extension to the originally named “Marukame” in Hawaii (Waikiki), this establishment sets to re-create a similar success to udon lovers here in Vancouver. Their menu offers much selection with the various types of noodles, specialty broths as well as their signature tempuras. If Marugame’s goal is to provide a cafeteria style dining experience with great tasting food, it appears that they’ve succeeded. If you love udon and tempura, and are in the neighborhood, check this place out.
We recently visited M.U (Feb.2026) and we’re happy to see that they’ve updated and added more delicious dishes to their already popular menu. The’ve added a chicken curry don with rice to name one item. I’ll be returning to try their other udon bowls!

Stopped by Marugame Udon for a quick meal and it was honestly really good. The udon noodles tasted fresh and had that nice chewy texture. I got the beef udon and the broth was simple but really comforting. I also picked up a shrimp tempura on the side which was crispy and light

As an udon specialty shop the udon noodles are so bad. They’re supposed to be squishy and chewy, not doughy and soggy… super disappointing

We enjoyed food until homeless came in and drank our soup.
Manager gave food to homeless and asked him to leave.
We don’t expect any compensation but there could be sincere apologize for what happened in the restaurant.

I ate at Marugame Udon once in Osaka, Japan, and it was so delicious that I kept thinking about it afterward. When I discovered that there is also a location in Vancouver, I went to try it.
The noodles are chewy and very tasty. However, the variety of flavors is smaller than in Japan, and the taste tends to be a bit sweeter. It would be even better if there were more savory or spicy options that are not sweet.
Since it operates as a self-service fast-casual restaurant, tipping is not required, which helps save some money. The food itself is also very reasonably priced.
Recommended.
