Was really excited to try this place since we’ve had it in Hawaii and remembered it being good and affordable. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit of a letdown, the food was just okay and pretty pricey for what you get. The restaurant itself is nice and the staff are friendly, but for the cost and quality, I’d probably spend my money elsewhere next time.

The broth was so salty and I asked for some hot water to dilute it. The worker said they dont have hot water and asked which one I ordered. I said #5 and he said it’s supposed to be salty. Okay??? Was I expecting it to be sweet??? Then he was going to give me hot tap water in which he cannot confirm it was safe for consumption. So frustrating

Love the extra large cafeteria space! Even though lots of people there, felt spacious and quiet. Floor to ceiling windows look out onto a well manicured lawn and garden.
Food okay. Love the cafeteria style counter where you pick your tempura choices. I had the BK Udon with shrimp tempura, onsen egg, and chicken karaage. But, full disclosure, I prefer a well-rounded umami pork tonkatsu ramen. So I found the udon noodle soup to be less dimensional. Tempura good.

I recently tried the Vancouver Marugame Udon location for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I have been to the Honolulu location a number of times and always enjoyed it every time. I ordered the Nikutama Udon which is what I normally get and it was quite good. The noodles were mostly fresh and there was a good amount of beef on the noodles. When I went it was very quiet which I think made some of the food taste not so hot. The value you get from the udon is quite impeccable as the bowl of noodles is around $13. Overall I would recommend trying this place out as they offer great udon at reasonable prices.

Cafeteria-style ordering of noodle/rice dishes and tempura.
The udon noodles are good on their own but the real star is the tempura; an almost overwhelming selection of different tempura. The standouts for me were the chicken and the prawn.
They have a number of self-serve choices for dipping sauces as well once you have your food.
This is great option for lunch or dinner if you are in the area and need something on the quicker/more casual side, such as before an event at either of the stadiums, or a show at the QE Theatre.
