My go to local coffee shop for pour overs.

Update - At least it was.. The service over the last while has really diminished and I, quite frankly, prefer going elsewhere now.

This review is about one staff member — the girl wearing the red top today — not the entire café.

I came in, ordered my usual drink, and I did leave a tip: one dollar.
I know it’s not a big amount, but a tip is not an obligation. It’s optional — a gesture, not a duty.

Still, the reaction I received from her was unnecessary.
From the moment I said I wanted to dine in, the attitude felt off.
I clearly said I wanted to have my drink here, inside the café — yet she gave it to me in a plastic to-go cup.
When I asked for it in a regular ceramic cup, she simply pushed the ceramic mug toward me and said, “You can pour it yourself.”
I didn’t mind pouring it myself, but the tone was dismissive.

Then there was my breakfast sandwich.
I also told her I was eating inside, but she wrapped it in paper like take-out.
She placed it on the counter, didn’t call out my order, didn’t say my name, didn’t even say “breakfast sandwich.”
After about ten minutes, I had to go to the counter and ask, “Is this mine?”
She laughed and said, “Oh, this is yours?” in a way that felt disrespectful.

(The sandwich wasn’t really warm either, and I’m not even sure it was the right one — but the bigger issue was the attitude.)

All of this happened right after I left a tip.
And again — I did tip.
I shouldn’t be made to feel uncomfortable over a single dollar.
Staff already get paid hourly; a tip is extra, not something customers owe.

And this is not just about this café.
This is something every workplace needs to teach their staff:
A tip is optional. A tip is kindness. A tip is EXTRA.
No employee has the right to show irritation or change their behaviour because of how much a customer tips.

I work in customer-facing jobs too.
I never change my behavior based on tips.
My job is my responsibility, and professionalism should stay the same — whether someone tips or doesn’t tip at all.

Every year, tipping pressure is getting worse everywhere — in thousands of cafés, restaurants, and shops.
We should start correcting this mindset.
Managers should train their teams properly, because this kind of behaviour pushes customers away and creates unnecessary tension.

Again, this review is only about one staff member, but the message applies to many places.

Disappointing service. I finally decided to use a $15 gift card I’d been holding onto and stopped by around 8:30 on a Monday morning. Ordered an almond croissant and a cappuccino, and even left a 30% tip (for context).

The cappuccino was tiny for the $5 price, but the real issue was the service. Despite the café being empty, the server completely forgot my croissant. After waiting about five minutes, they asked me what else I had ordered, and only then handed it to me.

Overall, not a great experience and definitely not worth the visit.

Matchstick used to have a fantastic matcha latte, idk what happened. I paid $9 for this?? Low how light green it is?? All I can taste is oat milk
It’s like milk with barely an essence of matcha

Food was fabulous. I had the Breakfast sandwich with Bacon, which was excellent, finished off with a chocolate chip cookie. The food is slightly overpriced for what you get, but the flavours make up for it.

Coffee was great, though slightly expensive too.

Decent atmosphere, though not the comfiest.

Some staff friendly, some quite reserved.

Overall, the food is the star of the show here.

Simple latte with a croissant and a breakfast sandwich. Sandwich was taken but the bread was a little hard on some areas. Drink was tasty, chai latte, and paired well with my almond croissant. Cozy place to get some work done.

Been going to this place for a while now living dt, and usually it’s a good vibe but lately the staff there have been off? Twice in 2 weeks the cashier gave off negative energy like it was a chore to take my order. I usually say hi how’s it going and they’re nice but this cashier was not in a good mood. My roommate was with me and she always ask for an iced beverage but when her drink came out it was hot and she went up to the barista and asked if this was hers because she was confused as to why it was hot and not iced. The cashier then said “it’s what you ordered” in a condescending tone - so loudly that I could hear it from the side bar near the sweeteners. My roommate felt bad and asked if it could be made iced and the barista did remake it but I think they could’ve handled it better? I ordered right before my roommate and definitely heard her say iced so having an employee be condescending was not necessary.

Cute place but quite overpriced for a strawberry matcha latte that was probably the size of a Tim Hortons small coffee 🥲
