Got their valentines day set. The additional $15 for two buko pandan is outrageous! Buko pandan is just pandan flavored jelly, tapioca, coconut milk and a scoop of ice cream.

The bulalo wasn't very good. The cabbage in there was not cut so it's a giant piece that you have to somehow cut to serve. The corn was mushy.

Crispy pata is not bad. The skin was crispy but the meat was a bit dry.

We also ordered laing. More bagoong tasting than coconut. The pork sisig was flavorless. Somehow the tofu sisig was executely very well with a tasty sauce.

The only thing I would come back for is the tofu sisig.

I used to look forward to eating at Max’s as a kid because back home, this restaurant is considered somewhat “fancy”, real good food, & top notch service. When they opened up the Vancouver location, I used to love coming to this place. I stopped going during covid when they were charging 18% for groups of 3 or more but the service was beyond terrible. Tonight, I randomly craved for Kare Kare & our favourite modern Filipino restaurant isn’t serving it yet. We were also on a time crunch, so we decided to come back to Max’s AFTER 5 YEARS (thinking it’s been 5 years, they must have gotten better) & boy I kid you not, nothing has changed. If anything, it was even worst when we came the last time.

Host greeted us fine & got us seated. No server came to introduce themselves or offer water. I had to ask the host if we can order from her. Props for having all the food come out within 20 minutes though. We ordered Beef Kare Kare, Crispy Pork Sisig, Sinigang na Bangus, & large rice to share between the two of us.

Kare Kare was acceptable. Nothing special. Could’ve used a bit of sweetness & more meat. 6/10

Crispy Pork Sisig we appreciated. No wow factor, but not disappointing either. The amount of diced onion complemented the dish. Not the best I had though. 6/10

Sinigang na Bangus was my fave. The sourness & overall flavour were to my liking. I really liked it. It was well above my personal standards for Sinigang because it is one of my fave Filipino dishes, so I have a specific flavour that I really like & they nailed it. Could’ve put more greens though. 8/10

Service was soooo poor & theyre not even busy. None of the servers interacted with us except to seat us, take our order, buss our table, & give the machine & all these requests I had to stand up & call their attention. They failed with flying colours to provide that Filipino hospitality that we are so known for. When I tipped, the server’s thank you became quieter as she was grabbing the print out because yessss, why would I tip your minimum if there was no proper service that was provided?! We were served by 4 different people who had nothing to say LOL it was almost like playin charades with all of them. Could’ve had a great experience had they just tweaked their service. The ambiance was sooo awkward. No one even checked on us or asked if we’re ok or how the food was or if we needed anything. It is mind-boggling how a respectable & well-known restaurant could have gone downhill over the years. Imagine spending your occasion here only to be disappointed & sad 😅

A fantastic filipino place at a great location, with an impressive menu selection. Their portion sizes are massive, which is perfect for families. The vibes here are also quite nice, making this restaurant a great place to go for some comfort filipino food. I highly recommend trying this place out :)

Max’s Restaurant is a great place for comfort food. It’s been a while since our last visit, but we finally enjoyed dinner there again and had a great experience. The menu has changed to a much shorter list, possibly due to the holiday season, and some of our favorites weren’t available anymore (like the Bicol Express), which was a bit disappointing.

That said, the BBQ order was very generous, coming with 6 pieces and great portion sizes. Everything we had was enjoyable, and the washroom was pristine clean, which we really appreciated. Overall, still a great visit and we’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely the worst food I ever tasted in my life. We ordered chicken, pork & bbq sticks for takeout. Was old and greasy as if it was cooked days ago! All of it went into the garbage! How dare you sell that crap and charge $150!!!! No wonder your restaurant is always empty now. We are furious and will never eat there again! If we lived closer I would have brought it back! Nice surprise to get home to Richmond and find this garbage we were supposed to eat!
