Would recommend pork cutlet over everything. Portion size is best and pork so tender. Eel good too but maybe not worth. Also regular or medium is perfect large is a bit much.

I ordered the aburi cheese curry and added pork for take out. It was a good size portion, but the aburi cheese made it too salty. The cheese just tasted like regular cheese, I was unable to taste the char on the cheese. I would have liked a tiny bit more sauce. This place is very well priced.

The dried shrimp on the chicken ramen was an unexpected but pleasant surprise! Fabulous meal.
After discovering Japanese curry at another tiny place that specializes in Japanese curry, I decided to try Oretachi since their website describes the use of 20 spices and herbs made from fresh local BC ingredients. We ordered a vegetable curry and a chicken cutlet curry with pumpkin croquette topping. I unfortunately chose the okra because both spinach and egg plant are high in histamine and I did not want to suffer days of runny nose afterwards. Cut okra leaks a mucilage which is a slimy soluble fibre when cooked with moisture. Grilling could have avoided that, but might have added too much 'heat' to the meal. The pumpkin croquette was ok but not has good as others we've tried. The chicken cutlet was on the dry side compared to Saku but then not as oily as Saku. Fortunately no hint of garlic unlike the Korean version. The rice was very different, not as short-grain sticky as expected. The 20 ingredients were not evident in the taste of the curry nor did we get a whiff Japanese curry outside, and definitely not even when the spoon was right next to our noses which was a disappointment. The curry sauce was more like a soup thickened with cornstarch (rather than Roux). Overall, we were very disappointed, but happy for them that they seem to have a regular client base as they were quite busy.

A little Japanese curry restaurant on Main. The food is average if you enjoy deep-fried Japanese food. They are quite unique in Vancouver since not a lot of places like this one exist

Wished the food would come out steaming hot. It was lukewarm when served. Had to ask for both our platters of curry to be nuked in the microwave. Ruined the onsen egg unfortunately. Curry flavour was good but okra portion seemed paltry.

Got the katsu curry + small side of cabbage salad for about $19 before tips. Highlight was the curry sauce. More flavourful and spice than the cubed curry you get at supermarkets, and a mild fruity sweetness that gives an extra dimension. I would drink a bowl of the curry.
Katsu was fine. Decently crispy but very standard. The size of panko they use soaks up a little more oil than I would’ve liked but that’s more of a personal pref. It was fine.
Love the self serve pickle and water stations. It was clean and well-maintained. Friendly service
Narrow dining space, but it wasn’t busy Wednesday dinner so I had the bar to myself.

Curry with rice and curry with ramen. Would recommend the rice version. Different sizes and spicy level. Recommend you add okra with your protein.

Japanese style curry house. We really liked their chicken curry rice. Ramen was just ok, we would prefer udon over ramen for this type of curry. However we still enjoyed their chicken dishes we ordered. We would like to come back to try others. Service was quick and nice as well.
