We used to like raisu a lot. But recently we find the food quality is not as good as before. The sashimi is ok… but not extraordinary. What’s worst is the service … we waited for a very very long time for our food. We asked to refill water for our tea pot… and the waitress forgot about it and we had to remind her after 15 min. We asked for soup refill and we had to ask twice as she forgot as well. We asked for more wasabi and the wasabi they provided was sooooooo tiny. Basically the service was very bad… and we had to wait long for everything. Very disappointed meal.

Absolutely fantastic options of authentic prepared Japanese cuisine. The plum wines, sashimi, octopus wasabi, sushi, prawns are highly recommended.

Food presentation was great and the uni shot was fresh and delicious! But the uni on the rice bowl wasn’t fresh. Servers were very kind.

The best Japanese restaurant in British Columbia. Being here felt like I was back in Japan.

FOOD: one of a kind flavour and taste. AWESOME THE BEST.

SERVICE: very good attentive serving staff. Also all you can refill pop.

ATMOSPHERE: decor felt like I was in a restaurant in FUKUOKA JAPAN.

PRICE: a bit expensive but well worth the price.

I shocked myself when I saw I hadn’t written a review for Raisu yet! I’ve gotten made fun of for how much I love this place, but those people are miserable haters. Raisu is the BEST, family friendly and really fun for celebrations (if you’re okay with the serving staff making noise - you get an instax photo which is super cute and often a complimentary dessert).

For appies, the jumbo ebimayo is HUGE but maybe a tad too much batter for carbophobes. The chicken karaage is crispy and yummy with a generous portion. IMO skip the seafood tartar. The takowasabi clears your sinuses in the best way.

Their cooked items are their strong suit. I’d recommend trying the spicy lobster uni cream udon (for a creamy broth), wagyu beef shabu shabu (for a clear broth), ocean offerings (very photo worthy), mixed cutlet teishoku (unlimited rice and miso soup refills!), and the real crab and ikura hitsumabushi (add the uni, it’s worth it). They also have a killer kids combo set and I wish I was/had a kid so I could eat it 😔 cocktails are great too!

Come try, there’s a reason why this place is always booked up.

Raisu has always been my favourite place to celebrate birthdays and anniversary! Good quality, good service.
You should make a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance if you want to go there during prime dinner time.
I guess the only downside is hard to find parking!

This place is known for their Japanese set meals. If your looking for a real treat, their shokado 9 set tray box is not only very photogenic, but also amazing.
You do have to reserve in advance.
Unfortunately when I was trying to reserve, I couldn't because they have a limited amount per day. But it still didn't discouraged me from coming.
The quality and freshness is top notch.
The dollar you are paying is premium, and they delivered premium that night.
Our services were fantastic and management is doing a fantastic job.
Would I come back again? Yes, and hopefully I can have a shokado box with my name on it 😟

The lady in the reception was really kind and friendly! BUT
We ordered the deluxe seafood bowl, but the server accidentally gave it to another table. Before realizing the mistake, he politely explained to them what kind of sashimi it was. When he realized it wasn’t for them, he took it back to the kitchen and then brought the same thing out for us again. I didn’t notice whether the other table had touched it or not, but I strongly believe this is completely unacceptable for food safety.

I requested that they serve us a new bowl, and the look on his face was basically, “Was that necessary?”which I found kinda offensive. The difference in service was incredibly disappointing. In the end, the manager came over to ask what happened and apologized, even though it wasn’t her fault.

On top of that, when he finally served it to us, he didn’t even explain what kind of sashimi it was—he just put it down and left. That really shows the clear difference in service between tables.

A restaurant with this level of popularity should never treat customers differently.
Really disappointed. I will never come back again.

Super fun dinner at Raisu!! We decided to try our luck with a walk in since we didn’t have a reso, and were seated at a corner bar in minutes! We had the daily sushi share plate which was amazing, then I had the seafood platter. Amazingly clean and fresh seafood, 4 different types of sashimi, grilled tuna, row, scallops, prawn, and I even got to try Uni for the first time. What an amazing flavour and mouthful experience!! I could tell it was very fresh! Plating and atmosphere were also stellar!

Beautiful surprise.

We were in the neighborhood. Needed a place to eat, we knew it had to be Japanese. The wee neice was having her birthday soon, it was her choice.

From the smell of the wood as I walked up the stairs, I knew I was in for a treat. They sat us at the balcony. We decided on the Uni Omakase. Mabee it was the suprise, mabee it was just a well assembled 6 courses... Im not really sure.....Blown Away.

The service was of course also excellent. Thank you to them for making my nice feel very special.

all these chains of sister restaurants (e.g. kingyo) are so consistently good and serve such high quality food.

my highlights were FOR SURE the wagyu croquette and the prawn croquette. both were fried to ABSOLUTELY CRISPY PERFECTION. the wagyu one literally exploded with juicy goodness and was so perfect dipped in the sweet sauce. the prawn croquette was so creamy on the inside and paired well with the tartar sauce. the ebimayo (which was indeed super jumbo) was also delicious, and the mayo was sooooo sweet and tangy and creamy.

the stone beef steak hitsumabushi was good, but the garlic butter rice wasn’t what i pictured. it was flavourful, but not my kinda thing i think—a bit too salty? i liked it better with the soup broth afterwards.

the free birthday dessert was this panna cotta and it was actually surprisingly good!!

Raisu is a fantastic spot for Japanese food. The dishes were fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor—especially the aburi sushi and Deluxe Bento. The cozy, authentic atmosphere made the experience even better. Staff were friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back!
