Ryuu Japanese Kitchen (UBC)

I had the pleasure of dining at Ryuu Japanese Kitchen, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish! The food was absolutely delicious—every dish was packed with fresh, authentic flavors that transported me straight to Japan. The sushi was perfectly crafted, with just the right balance of texture and taste. The ramen was incredible flavorful, with a rich broth that was so comforting.

Not only was the food outstanding, but the service was also exceptional. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure our experience was enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, making it a great place for both casual dining and special occasions.

Highly recommend Ryuu Japanese Kitchen to anyone craving top-quality Japanese cuisine. I’ll definitely be coming back soon!

The food is good but portions are small compared to what you are spending. There are much better ‘bang for your buck’ places at UBC, including Steve’s poke just next door. I believe if this place increased their portions or reduced their prices, it would be much more busy. During lunch rush, every other place is flowing with people except this one, and for a valid reason. Their combos only contain 4 rolls compared to the usual 6 and only about 3 pieces of fried chicken. It is a good alternative if the steves line, chipotle line and DL chicken line is too long but you are paying the same price for about half the food as these places will get you. If you are a big eater, do not expect to be full off of one of their combos, even if you get some rolls on the side. Overall was pretty disappointed with what they offered, considering Ryuu poke down the street at wesbrook mall is amazing.

Restaurant's price with food court level of food and presentation.
$20 bento with only a little bit of rice, the avocado in California roll went half black, the egg tasted disgusting, the miso soup was served in a plastic bowl and the green tea from the water bottle was cold. The fried chicken was the only good thing....but definitely not come back again.

Dined in for the first time two months ago and the food was absolutely delicious! I've tried all of the bento boxes as they are my favourite to get a little bit of everything and they never disappoint. I've since returned many more times to enjoy the food here, and the staff are all so friendly. I would absolutely recommend coming here for a bite to eat 10/10

The food was pretty gross, honestly... had a rough night after eating there. Definitely not going back anytime soon.
Also, one of the staff in a white chef’s coat came across as a bit rude.

Both dropped in quality and raised prices (by a good couple of dollars!) within the start of the school year. I order the same thing every time I go, and what used to be a max 22 buck order came up to be 28

The portions are way too small. $17 for 2 rolls and the rolls are tiny. Both fit into around a 1 roll size small tray

Made a reservation to celebrate my friends graduation, glad that they have a big table to accommodate all of us. Food were good, and we didn't have to wait too long. Price was students friendly, not too expensive. And the waitress was willing to separate the bills. Thank you.

really rude service :/ i asked for gluten free soy sauce (they normally always have it) and the server RUDELY (was working on april 13th) told me that i shouldn’t eat Japanese food because all of it has gluten? and then he rolled his eyes at my friend and i as we were leaving because i have an allergy… what kind of service is this! definitely never giving my money here ever again
