This was a fabulous and unique experience! The kind servers explained the menu and gave great suggestions. The restaurant has clearly put a huge amount of thought into every bite and aspect. I was especially impressed at how they source all their alcoholic drinks from indigenous crafters!
For food, I particularly loved the risotto, but everything was delicious.
We sat outside which was covered (if not the most fancy looking but that’s ok!), and the service...
When I heard about a First Nations restaurant I was intrigued and wanted to try it out. Unfortunately I wasn’t really impressed by the food, especially given the price.
My wife had a cherry lemonade (spirit refresher) that wasn’t very well mixed, the top wrasses like water and the last bit was very sweet. I got a hot apple cider, since it was pretty cold in the restaurant, but it tasted pretty much like one of this powder pack ciders.
Then we got the bannocks....
What might appear as low-key salmon restaurant is indeed a culinary and cultural treasure that is a must visit. The warms and professional staff is from the First Nations. The portions are generous. Prices are reasonable. And the flavor unmatched. Go there for the salmon and bannock, but the if you are vegetarian, the risotto is a wonderful alternative with the most complex and light flavor. The artwork alone is worth going for lunch before visiting the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
