Good Filipino food, small cafeteria setting, and friendly service

Never really had Filipino food before. The server walked me through what all their main dishes were. Ended up with the pork and eggplant with peanut sauce and the pork flavoured with shrimp paste. Both were delightful. Well seasoned, the pork was fatty (in a good way) and tender. Only criticism would be that I got takeout and could’ve used a touch more rice (but ultimately it was still very filling).

Really enjoyed my beef and rice combo ! Excellent quiet little gem of a spot! Try the turon fir desert! (Sweet deep fried banana!)

Don’t recommend the sisig — it’s mostly chicharon (about 80%) and really dry. The lomi was the same. The place also had an off smell when we dined in, which made the experience less pleasant. The staff were nice, but overall I was disappointed with the food.
Needs a lot of work

I echo the other reviewers when they say the customer service at this place is horrible. The guy at the counter (not sure if he's the owner) doesn't seem to know how to treat customers. Another reviewer said there's no menu and no labels on the food, and he's right. But the annoying thing is that if you ask for the price, they don't give you a straightforward answer, which can seem dodgy. The food is okay and authentic but you can get better Filipino fare elsewhere (even at the nearby 88 Supermarket sometimes). The place is dimly-lit and doesn't seem clean enough for a food establishment. I probably won't be coming back to this place unless they make some major changes.

Cute restaurant with lots of selection for food to go. My favorite are, kare kare, laing, dinuguan and turon for dessert.

I would want to give a good review so badly to support this place. I definitely agree with the other review. The place needs a lot of revamping to gain more customers. We were the only customers when we went it today around lunch time. The food in their warmer didn’t look very new. The color of the food looked like it had been reheated several times. I felt bad saying this but we changed our mind and didn’t order at all. We just decided to buy some Turon instead. It just a matter of time before this one is gone unless they decide to up the game.

We loved our experience at Sangkalan Eatery! Jasmin and Leni were super friendly and made sure we felt at home. The food was amazing - generous portions and so delicious! The sinigang was perfect, and the chicken adobo was so tender and flavorful.
We can't wait to come back! Highly recommend this place for great food and warm service

Very salty, and takeout portions are small for the prices

UNLESS you're yathatssobomb or some kind of influencer this place is trash. Walked in and there was no menu, and wasn't even offered a menu. It was awkward and barely even acknowledged. The chef i thought had issues communicating because of poor english had an airpod in his ear. It's not for canadian borns that's for sure. There was no labels on any of the food in the warmers. it was a struggle. There was absolutely no care for service and portions were small and didn't meet the meat to rice ratio. Food was mediocre. This must be a place for just their family and friends, it definitely won't last. Even if you can't cook, y'all could cook better than the food that was served blindfolded. It could have just been timing but last I tried to go in there it was the same they seemed unprepared and not welcoming.

Owner was very unfriendly when I politely asked if I could dine in (one hour before closing), which made me opt to take out instead. A minute later, he allowed another customer to dine in, and i'm waiting for my ride, hungry. Would have forgiven the interaction if the food was good, but I'm sure I could find better Filipino restaurants in town, with owners who would at least smile and reflect the Filipino hospitality some may be looking for in visiting such a restaurant.
