I had seen this place recommended on social media more times than I could count, with people raving about the freshness and the supposedly unbeatable prices. Many seemed to make the trip with high expectations and shopping bags at the ready.

When I finally wandered past one day, curiosity got the better of me. The seafood, while fine enough, was frozen, so the much-promised freshness was difficult to detect. The prices, often praised to the skies, were not outrageous, but certainly not the once-in-a-lifetime bargains some seem to imagine. One wonders if these enthusiasts have ever actually bought sashimi from a market.

The olfactory welcome outside the shop was more landfill than ocean breeze, yet the door stood gallantly open to share the experience with passers-by. As for the famous fish bones, yes, they are indeed only $1.50 a bag, but they are, in the end, fish bones. One is reminded of being offered a discounted shoebox without the shoes.

I bear the establishment no ill-will and wouldn’t dissuade others from trying it themselves. But for my part, I shall not be returning - my search for true maritime splendour continues elsewhere.

Very kind shopkeeper who speaks mandarin. Shop is Japanese own and we can leave phone number when they have uni available. I saw many people buying salmon cheeks probably for grill and soup. Reasonable price.
