Went here for a late lunch. Was a bit worried because of the low rating but I think some people just didn't understand what this place is. This is a classic dim sum place, meaning it has a vibe of decrepit opulence like it used to be fancy in the 80's or something and now it's run down with yellowing walls, dirty carpets and huge ugly chandeliers. There's no music and the only ambiance is the sound of the crab tanks gurgling, but the food is fire! The only thing missing to complete the experience was for the waitstaff to be incredibly rude to us but unfortunately the waitress was very sweet and helpful. Can't have it all but seriously don't sweat the rating this is a really solid dim sum spot.

Yikes. I’ve been to a lot of Chinese restaurants and between the consistently terrible food, high prices and staff that obviously wants to be elsewhere, this is the last Chinese place I ever want to go to again.

They have their own parking inside holiday inn parking lot which is an added bonus at the busy hospital area.

Love this place! The staff is first class!
We tried this place for dim sum at about 11:00 a.m. It was only about 5% full at the time. The first thing we noticed was how filthy the carpets were. It was obvious that they hadn’t been vacuumed in weeks and had probably never been steam cleaned.
The service was good. The food for the most part was average in taste and the portions were small. Five dishes (har gow, sui mai,shrimp/chive dumpling, spring roll, and mini sticky rice) came to $60 with tip. Only the sticky rice was above average in taste. The portion sizes at Western Lake on Victoria Drive are literally twice as large.
One star deducted for the lack of attention to cleanliness.
Restaurant decided to close early. Didn’t even greet us just said closing early and shoo’d us out the door. Super rude. There was still families eating inside. Online and on the door said open.
Good service and authentic food!
Great place for decent Chinese meals with parking in that neighborhood.

I love their food! Even though I live on the other side of town, I’m always happy to make the drive because I know I’ll enjoy a great meal.
Parking: Around 15 spots on the hotel parking lot beside the restaurant

My wife and I ordered bulk takeout, spent almost 300 dollars. 4 dumplings for 11 dollars is ridiculous. The amount in the picture is all we received, and the food was bland and did not taste fresh.

You know it’s an authentic chinese restaurant when it smells like one. 😂
I came here with my family to meet an old friend in Vancouver, and this place was recommended by the locals. Personally, I don’t understand why this place has such low reviews. Prices may be a little steep, but I guarantee you if you’re finding authentic chinese flavours and taste, drop by.
We ordered Lobsters, Roasted Chicken, Crispy Peking Duck with Wrap, Cod Fish, Stir Fry Vege with Beef, Stir Fry Kailan, Silverfish Fried Rice and some soup (can’t remember). All these dishes come part as a set, and we all had a great time at Shanghai Lu. The waiters here are also super friendly and thoughtful, I would definitely drop by this place the next time when I’m in Vancouver.
There is also free parking located at the hotel directly beside the entrance of this restaurant. Take the ramp up after the drop-off point at the hotel lobby, and proceed all the way up until you see the lots allocated for Shanghai Lu customers. Just let the waiters know you parked your car there.

Ordered takeout, 6 dim sum dishes and the total was close to $100! The dim sum was nothing special. The restaurant wasn't busy when I went to pick up my order... probably because their prices are really high! Won't be going there again for average dim sum!
