I ordered recently and it was delicious, so I ordered again, but it was the worst.
Cold food and bland and tasteless….
I wasted my money…

Ordered Uber eats , atlantic salmon oshi was very oily. Without any filling in the middle. Just rice with thin slices of salmon on top and thin slices of jalapeno. Udon was very sub average. See pictures. Would not recommend.

Had take out and the rice under cooked with hard bits and tasted very strongly of vinegar. Some of the worst sushi I’ve had.

The food was good. The service was very nice. The dining room was lovely. But……….. we went there specifically for the kaiseki dinner. The website is named “Shoku Kaiseki restaurant”, the website lists the kaiseki dinner, even the menu has a page describing the kaiseki dinner. So we ordered 4 kaiseki dinners. The servers takes our order, leaves for a few minutes, then comes back and tells us that they no
longer do kaiseki dinners anymore. Now, I don’t know if they didn’t want to do it for us because we were literally the only people in the restaurant or they really took it off their menu, but it was very, very disappointing. If you’re going to take your showcase item off the menu, you should warn customers before we make the trek out for a special dinner.

DO NOT BE MISLED BY INSTAGRAM REELS.
I had their Kaiseki lunch menu and used a 30% off coupon that I received when ordering ubereats from here.

- chawanmushi was really overcooked and was not silky smooth
- tempura was very average and tasted like the frozen ones you can get from Costco
- tako wasabi was fine
- nigiri was pretty good, especially the aburi pieces
- the website specifies udon soup, but we did not get any udon soup
- the website also specifies BBQ, and from some instagram reels, we went in expecting a BBQ platter, but were disappointed with a simple piece of “BBQ” (pan-fried) salmon

We constantly heard the microwave going off, which is not something you expect from a $42+ dining experience.

The restaurant was practically empty, but it seemed like the waitress was trying to rush us out near the end for some reason.

Overall, I’d say this kaiseki lunch set is not worth the full $42. The only thing I’d order from here is their BOGO oshi on ubereats.

Super quiet when I went. The portions of sashimi were smaller than expected, but they were delicious. The Oshi was perfect.
The piano in the middle of the dining room was an interesting choice, but I like it. It's weird, but in a cool memorable way. The crochet animals decorating the place are adorable.

We went here the four of us. The food was ok. But the service was terrible. It's the same young female server others have mentioned. I don't think she wants to be there. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. We arrived and asked for the table by the window. She said no, I already set this table for you. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant for the whole night. After that it was all down hill. Food was placed on the edge of the table for the 4 of us to distribute. Never checked on us once as she was busy with her phone behind the counter. Had to ask for tea multiple times. Super rude. Not one thank you. Don't go here.

Very good food.. but the server (girl) is very incompetent… can’t say thank you even once…
For example. When I asked for the sauce … immediately she said aggressively in stern tone.. I’m just going to get you that sauce..
After paying she never said thank you at all..
Weird person… shouldn’t hire incompetent individual…

My experience was with takeout only.Clean presentation and taste was on point. I did pass by it on foot once but didn't because of the tacky piano at the window (wasn't sure what to make of the place). Will consider dining in next time.

Worst dining experience I’ve had in Vancouver. I hesitate to leave a bad review as I know how tough it is for restaurants to survive but I can’t, in good conscience, stay silent on this one. In sum, the food was barely edible here and I left moments after taking the first few bites. Both the tea and udon were served cold (and tasted terrible). When I mentioned this, the server was apathetic, seemed to anticipate my remarks and casually admitted she had served me cold and stale last batches (I’m not kidding). The oshi sushi was the worst oshi I’ve ever had (this isn’t hyperbole). I force fed myself 3 pieces and then had to stop. When I politely asked if I could speak to a manager about my experience, I was advised, “there is no manager but the chef says sorry” lol. These people simply don’t know what they’re doing. This restaurant won’t survive; don’t let them take you down with them. Overall this experience was a big yikes on both the food and service front. They shouldn’t even be operating.

I had gone there with my friends, as I had seen several posts about this place on social media. The Squid bbq was good. The oshi and tuna tataki was not that bad. However, the sashimi was not the greatest, and there was a weird taste and odour to it.The service was not the greatest. The server barely acknowledged us, she did not seem like she wanted to be there, as soon as I had entered. I understand people may have bad days, however her tone of voice and demeanour was not pleasant. We were willing to pay the full bill and had only brought it up after, that we had a bad experience with the sashimi. In which she barely acknowledged it, and we were slightly confused. We wanted to at least let the kitchen know, for the next customers.

Saw this place on social media and wanted to try it out. The salmon oshi and mentaiko udon were pretty good, but the grilled squid still had its internal shell and the sashimi did not smell or taste fresh at all.We brought up our concerns with the server, asked if it was normal and she let out a deep sigh, nodded her head and said “yeah”. We also had to go up to the counter to put in our order after waiting/trying to get her attention for 15 minutes. The service was not great and created such a bizarre and uncomfortable dining experience. Would not be coming back.

My family wanted to have premium sushi to celebrate my daughter-in-law’s birthday. My son suggested we go to Tozen Sushi Bar, but it was fully booked. So I googled Japanese Restaurant in that area and Shoku came up. They had a good reviews (4.3 stars) on Google. So I called (at 2 pm) to make a reservation at 7:30 pm for 6 people. The person (with a lady's voice) who answered the phone sounded like she had just woken up and appeared to be annoyed that I called and sighed multiple times during the short call. I thought this person must be an outsourced service and thought nothing of it.Upon arriving at the restaurant, I learned that the restaurant was recently opened and I was impressed with the elegant decoration that included a grand piano in the middle of the dining room. When we arrived, the restaurant only had 3 tables that had 2-4 guests each. We waited for approximately 3-5 minutes and no one came to greet and seat us. We had to call out “Hello??” before this young lady who was wearing a black fleece hoody and green baggy pants came out to seat us. We brought a birthday cake and requested her to keep it cold for us. She told us to let her know when to take it out. This lady is the only person serving in the dining room. When we placed our order, the server said some grand opening specials were not on the menu. They were on the sandwich board outside and she asked us to go out and check it out.The food was pricy but they were generally delicious, especially the BBQ squid and the Oshi platter. The tempura was overcooked and a disappointment.By the time we were halfway through our orders, it was 8:15 and we were the only one in the restaurant. Shortly after the last dish arrived, the server handed us the bill. I asked her if we could have the birthday cake at that point. She said it was too late to have the birthday cake and asked us to take it with us. Note that it was 8:35 pm and the restaurant hours indicated closing is 9:00 pm.I did not expect fine dining service but the service was egregious. The unwelcoming reservation call, being asked to go outside to read the sandwich board, the server serving food and drinks with one hand in her hoody pocket, and being told we were too late to have the birthday cake, were experiences I don’t recommend for anyone.
