Elite drinks and service! Food was good except for the Mac and cheese. It was so bad it literally tastes like barbecue sauce and plastic. Tried to pass off to my friends but no one liked it. Would be 5/5 if not for the mac and cheese

I’m unfortunately disappointed with this place. I’ve seen it a few weeks ago while walking on Main, and saved it to go with my friend who was visiting from Mexico in the next few weeks. I thought it would be the perfect place, as he wanted to check out a bbq restaurant, and I’m vegan.
Seeing the signs outside, saying “Slim’s BBQ for vegans and carnivores” makes you believe that this place will have regular bbq, and vegan bbq. Which means, vegan meat with bbq flavour.
When reading through the menu, as a vegan, it didn’t seem to be much different than other regular restaurants that contain vegan options. Not many actual bbq vegan options.
I ordered the vegan BBQ jackfruit burger, because it seemed like the only bbq vegan option. I expected jackfruit meat with bbq flavour, such as BBQ sauce, powder or liquid smoke, or cooked with coal for the bbq flavour.
I received a 100% vinegar tasting jackfruit. Had no flavours whatsoever that resembled bbq food. And, beyond that, the jackfruit was very soft and slippery so it wasn’t possible to eat the burger with the hands (aka it was just falling everywhere). So I had to eat with the butter knife and fork provided, but the “plate” was a tray so I had lots of food falling out through the little holes. And the tray had a paper what was coming apart, I’m sure I ate some paper or ink (photo attached). Also, I asked without jalapeños, but received the jalapeños. At least they were just a couple slices on the top, easy to remove.
If this place didn’t brand itself as “for vegans and carnivores” with the signs outside, I wouldn’t be as frustrated with the outcome of the vegan bbq jackfruit. But as it brands itself this way, a vegan would certainly expect an actual vegan bbq experience, not vinegar flavoured jackfruit.
I’m thankful for a bbq place with vegan options, but I really suggest you up your game with the actual “bbq” part. I already gave some examples above to spice it up. And I also suggest your chef to check out actual vegan bbq places for inspiration. The city of São Paulo and Porto Alegre has some incredible options, check it out! You can see their menu and photos online.

While paying I was charged $18 for 1/4 Sinaloa Barbacoa Beef, this menu that I was given was saying $16. I went to the bartender/waitress and she said “oh that’s an old menu, sorry 😒” and she just went away like nothing. No apologies no nothing. Rly? Getting all rude for YOUR MISTAKE? And no compensation whatsoever?? Horrible
Btw, the side was bigger than the main.

We ordered a family meal for takeout. They were extremely busy so that let us know the food was going to be good. We added a piece of fried chicken and side of wings. The staff on the phone were polite and outgoing. Highly recommend this yummy smoky bbq food

One of the best places for bbq in Vancouver. Service is also excellent. Giving 4 stars only because they never pick up the phone. I'd love to order delivery for their gluten free items (celiac, they're amazing for dine-in accomodations) but there's no way to add the allergy/note in Uber Eats or Doordash , and there's no way to let them know over the phone :(

Grabbed take out tacos and wings. Legitimately the best beef taco I've had in Canada by far. Wings were peach habenero, not spicy really more just bursting with flavor. Kind gentlemen served us. Thank you

Not sure what happened tonight or why I'm not getting the same amazing service as everyone else who reviewed, but I went in with my wife and a couple friends for my birthday dinner, and the server was very terse and very short with me from the get-go. Not friendly at all, made me feel very unwelcome.

I went to this place for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had the smoked meat melt with cheese and jalapenos on sourdough with the cornbread and both were amazing. I will definitely try them again.
Truly the service was hard to beat! Server was attentive, knew the product and was very friendly.
Great little restaurant that I felt comfortable as soon as I walked through the door.
As you can see from the picture the dish smelt so good I couldn't wait to dig in. The BBQ ribs were awesome ( both the bbq and glazed dry rub,) some of the best I have had. It was paired with coleslaw and corn bread. No complaints and would recommend!
So impressed I will be returning to try the rest of the menu!!!!!

Great dinner at Slim’s BBQ last night. My celiac kid loved the ribs and tots. I had the fried chicken which was outstanding. Server confirmed that they could accommodate for GF and menu was clearly marked. Overall great service and great vibe. We will be back!
