The price has gone up quite a bit, overall its a good sushi place. Due to the current construction, its hard to find parking and hard to walk by so there are not as many people dine in as used to. My fav are the las vegas roll, caterpillar roll, chop scallop rolls. There is no bento box lunch combo here.... Thats one down side.

No change station in the bathroom! We had a poopnado and were hooped. Why would a business have high chairs but no change station????

I was disappointed that the sushi rolls had a lot of rice and little amounts of fish which made it bland in taste. I would especially encourage the chefs to add more fish to the “Box Sushi Roll” which was honestly more a “Box of Rice.” The only rolls that had more flavour were Caterpillar Roll and Crunch Calamari Roll - however still left for more to be desired.Front staff were friendly and professional. Restaurant appeared clean.

Absolutely disgraceful, I ordered salmon roll for pickup and the photo I saw on the app was nothing in comparison to what I received, this is false advertisement and deception. Look at the comparison of what I received Vs. What I ordered.

We've passed this place umpteenth time and never really paid attention to it until one evening after 9:00 pm when we were driving back from the valley to Vancouver. Unlike Kingsway Avenue, the number of restaurants along Broadway is actually quite limited. We became more and more hungry until finally, we saw Sushi California. With limited choice, we decided to try it. We ordered salmon sashimi, agadashi tofu, and nabeyaki udon with a side of broccoli. The sashimi was just right in temperature. The udon soup was delicious. And best of all, the bill was very reasonable. Since then, we’ve been back to try different things. This place is very busy around lunch and dinner hours. There’s usually a wait of up to 30 minutes. But the tables turn quite regularly. Their patrons tend to order a lot, eat and leave. They have a tremendous number of take out orders. This is quite encouraging to us because what we really care about is the “freshness” of the raw fish. I put “fresh” in quotes because the BC Centre for Disease Control require freezing of raw fish to destroy parasites (at temperatures of -20°C or below for 7 days or – 35°C or below for 15 hours or -35°C until frozen and held at -20°C for 24 hours.). The popularity of Sushi California means that the raw fish will typically be served at the perfect temperature, i.e. just thawed but not long enough to sit around and deteriorate. Like many Vancouverites, we’ve made this place one of our regular kitchens.

The sushi at this place is top-notch, meticulously crafted, and bursting with freshness. It's arguably the best I've had in Vancouver lately. Opting for takeaway, I savored each bite, particularly enjoying the absence of heavy sauces and mayos, allowing the flavors to shine through in a "clean" way. Even the beef teriyaki was served separately, offering flexibility in adding the accompanying sauce. This spot offers a refreshing option for those seeking a wholesome, nourishing meal. Though it was my first time ordering, I'm already planning a return visit. Their newly implemented online ordering system makes takeaway a breeze, with a user-friendly interface that streamlines the process. The only downside is the current construction on Broadway Street, which detracts from the in-person dining experience, making online ordering the preferable choice. Additionally, I'd suggest bringing your own bag for pickup, as they charge for bags otherwise. Another plus is their punctuality; they're always prepared for the indicated pickup time, adding to the convenience of ordering from them.

So sad to see this place now! Greatly reduced menu offerings and restaurant one-third full on Saturday at lunchtime. Construction outside is not helpful either.

Tiny thin pieces of fish that you can see through. 95% of rolls is just rice, and even the rice doesn’t taste well. This place was so much better in the past. Very disappointed!

Hands down the best sushi in vancouver. Please support these folks because I can't imagine the broadway construction is doing them any favors.

Unfortunately I ordered two rolls (Las Vegas and Sakura) that had spicy mayo and I asked if it could be replaced with regular mayo. The lady said yes and noted it but the rolls came out of the kitchen with spicy mayo! I didn't know when I was paying at the restaurant and my family cannot eat spicy so we had to throw it in the garbage! So sad. :'( Although the other rolls we got were delicious.
