4.5 /5 . Good place. Tasty food, decent price (no cheap sushi anywhere downtown anymore), good service. Basic menu, but all of it seems decent.

Amazing! Loved the Bento Salmon and Chicken Bento boxes for lunch. Delicious, piking hot and fresh, and delicious. Some bento boxs food items are just luke warm or not all. But this Sonoya is amazing fresh hot! Friendly services server ( Sushi ) believe that is her name on the receipt ( Server ) but again unsure its just a nickname for the system. Will be back again! Highly recommend this diner. Only thing is that you need to use the downstairs VPL library washroom if needed. Best time is to go at 11am to prevent getting crowded. Limited tables.

I understand the importance of a 5-star review, and how this restaurant has grown to hold such a compliment. Such sweet and efficient service, mouth watering food at a completely affordable price, and adorable atmosphere that makes you feel as if you’re sitting in downtown akihabara.

I don’t like leaving negative reviews, quality was pretty average, decent for the price point. But what really threw me off was when the server dropped a to go ramekin lid on the kitchen floor, picked it up, wiped it on her clothes and tried to put it back on my sauce right in-front of me haha. Just makes me question the overall cleanliness of the food.

I would have given this awesome place 5 stars except for the fact that their menu is really limited. No teriyaki for example.

I know sushi and i often eat high end sushi but I'll also happily eat no fuss sushi. My go to in this area is Sushi Maro. But I had to walk the other direction for an errand and looked up sushi on the northern side of yaletown. Sushi bro's had one reviewer say something i trusted which knocked it out. This same reviewer happened to review sonoya and give it a 4 star. I came and for no fuss sushi it's edible but noticeably sub Par. Main issue is that the rice is hardened. Like it's been left for half hour in a cooler and then pressed in aburi type firmness to get it together. I had a roll combo a piece of ika and half order the toro. The toro was fine for the price $8:50 for 4 pieces I give us a 4 for no fuss. The rice on the California roll seemed fine. The ones on the salmon roll and the nigiri were coming on 7-11 hard.

Ordered the Chicken bento box.. chicken was very dry and burnt, tasted awful. The California roll was soggy. Service was not great, hard to get assistance at the back bar seats

Restaurants with tables are obligated to have washrooms. Somehow this place doesn’t have any, even for customers. How can they wash their hands? How are staff washing their hands?
