Happy this was my first omakase experience!
Tom and Ellie were exceptionally nice, and throughout the dine I loved that I learned so much about omakase.
Food portions are adequate and I felt full at the end of the course.

First Omakase experience at Tekkaba Restaurant and it was simply amazing. There is almost no words to describe the experience, the high quality of the food (fresh sashimi, creative dishes) and the professional and warm service from Tom. We tried the Dinner menu and each single dish was better than the other one ! At the end it was hard to tell which one was the best as everything was incredible. Portions are very generous (food and Sake pairing). Tom makes his own soy sauce (not too salty which is great), selects the best pieces of the fish, uses his Italian culinary experience in addition to the Japanese one to have you discover new tastes and he also makes his own desserts. We will come back for sure ! Thank you Tom for your generosity and what you do, you do it well !

Amazing experience, every single dish of the omakase experience was phenomenal. The attention to detail, the clear care for the ingredients, patrons and their craft is evident.
Even though this was one of the more expensive restaurants I've been to, we will be returning.

I had the premium dinner omakase. In short, I will not return and do not recommend this place to anyone looking for a Japanese omakase experience.
1. Food: 2 stars. 1 star for the number of dishes I got, 1 star for the variety of the dishes. Most of the sashimis and nigiris were just meh. The quality and quantity was not more or less than what you'd get at typical sushi/roll restaurants in your neighbourhood. The starter and desserts were just ok. I felt full at the end of the last dish though, and I'm a regular portion eater so the portion would be sufficient for most people.
2. Service: 3 starts. The chef, Tom, tried to make the dinner comfortable. Food was served at a good pace.
3. Atmosphere: 1 star. I expected a typical Japanese omakase atmosphere (bright, clean, tidy, simple). When I entered this place, the first thing I noticed was the frying oil smell. The inside was dark, which was the second thing I noticed. I sat at the bar and there was a glass washing tap and drainer (the tap you put beer glasses upside down and press so water jets out to rinse. I guess this place used to be a pub?), which was not a very Japanese omakase thing. Overall, it was very far from what I would expect from a Japanese omakase place.
4. Hygiene: -5 stars (yes, minus 5 stars). A half-inch cockroach was running on the tea kettle, and I pointed it out while the chef was pouring tea for me. Each seat has a wooden plate where the food was placed, and there were some stains. The bar surface was sticky.
5. Information on their website: -3 stars. The photos on their website (the typical Japanese restaurant serving style you would imagine) are very misleading. Not sure what the intention of the photos would be, but I was not able to find anything close to those photos.
Overall: I was not happy with what I got. Sure, I might have misunderstood the style of their food and style as I was expecting the typical Japanese style of food with better services, and this place was not for fulfilling those expectations.

I’ve been to several omakases in New York and a few here in Vancouver, and I can confidently say this experience has rivaled our favorite place in New York.
Our favorite place in New York, we loved so much, we went b2b nights. Had we gone here earlier during our trip in Vancouver, we probably would have done the same. We had a party of 3, and my gf’s sister had never experienced omakase before. We opted for the premium omakase experience which granted is $118 CAD/person but it’s only about $87 USD/person.
Chef Tom is such a delight and a very personable chef. He is incredibly meticulous and deliberate in his craft. It is a little different from traditional omakase, but I did enjoy the diverse bites in addition to the traditional. From what I recall, he even makes his own soy sauce from scratch, which that alone is—wow, the dedication.
The experience from start to finish was top-tier for us. We had plans to grab dessert, but after our dinner we could not, we genuinely left quite full and happy.
TDLR: You know it’s good when you take a bite and you experience that moment of bliss and go “oh, f*ck”. Pardon my language but the caviar truffle uni pasta especially did it for me. Not to mention the ratio / amount of fish to rice, yes please!
The food was far from ordinary that of a sushi chain restaurant. That comment is crazy to me, but to each their own. My gf and I had been to a different omakase which we were up-charged $208/person from our $108/person. The head chef looked at my gf with disgust after she misgrabbed the hand roll. Chef Tom made his experience beyond welcoming.

I went for a lunch omakase about a year ago and was very surprised at the amount & quality of food for the amount I paid. Fast forward to this year where I was raving about their food and ambience to a friend and we finally were able to find a day we both were free and wanted to try their lunch omakase again. I looked online on their website and notice the price has increased significantly but still decided to go ahead and book. I messaged their IG account for a booking confirmation and had no reply after a week. Then I went to book online and their website shows Mon - Sun 12:00PM to 9:00PM but their reservation page only allowed booking for dinner times. I emailed the restaurant for a reservation where they got back to let me know they’re only open for dinner during the weekday. Docking stars as they don’t reply their IG even tho they allow you to inquire about reservations and that their website still shows 12-9 everyday which is misleading.

My girlfriend and I were visiting Vancouver to attend a concert and decided to visit for an omakase dinner. The entire experience was very pleasant and Chef Tom was a great host. From the food to the conversation we both left very satisfied. We’re aiming to dine there again in the future!

Honestly one of the better experiences for omakase because of how personal the Chef and staff made us feel. The quality of the fish was excellent as well. I will definitely be coming back.

Chef Tom and his wife hosted a superb premium omakase for us celebrating my friend’s 40th.
The tempo and evolution of the courses was remarkable.
So conscientious and thoughtful.
It was an easy Friday night, unforgettable for our standards.
The uni pasta and delectable hand rolls wow.
Easily paid double in SF.

Unbelievable value for this set menu omakase experience. I've had premium omakase in five countries and this one was the highest value / price ratio i've had so far. Honeslty, would have expected to pay double for the quality. In London you would pay 4x for this quality.
Highlights were the scallop dish and surprisingly the pasta - the head chef was also crosstrained as an italian chef - and the pasta with a japanese twist was such an incredible surprise.
It was pretty quiet for our 5:30 dinner, so this definitely feels like a hidden Vancouver gem. Get in now so you can say you were there before it was cool.

Amazing dinner! We were the only people at our sitting, so we essentially had our own private chef in Tom. He explained each dish in great detail. All the sauces and dips were made by him. Highlights were the scallop aburi, the foie gras temaki, and the fabulous pasta with uni, caviar, and truffle. You must try this place

One of the premier omakase spots in Vancouver. Chef Tom’s sushi and sake pairings are beautifully complimentary. A great value for the price, would highly recommend!
