This place is an absolute gem! Must try. Everything we tried was bang on. We were impressed with the variety of vegetarian options, and flavor of paneer tikka at a South Indian restaurant. Our server was too kind to explain all the dishes which I was not familiar with, even when we were the last customers past midnight. Filter coffee was lovely too. Prices justified the quality and quantity. Will be back to try more on the menu. Only suggestion would to lower the loud music in the background.

Today, I came here for dining, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. The food itself was good, but the atmosphere was extremely toxic. One of the female servers ( a short lady ) was yelling at everyone, including the kitchen staff, and was also rude to us. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable toward customers. People come to a restaurant to enjoy good food and find peace, not to experience such negativity. I’m really disappointed and hope the management provides proper training on how to treat customers with respect.

The staff are not attentive to customers. When parotta is listed on the buffet menu, it should be readily available. The staff don’t check with everyone, and when we order parotta, it takes a long time to be served. Having to wait for dosa or parotta gives a poor dining experience.

Mind blowing dosa, I am not just writing reviews and I am also telling people to try it, we went there by chance but now I feel like it's the best dosa place

Authentic taste of dosas served with chutneys and sambhar! Dosas(chocolate, cheese and plain) served in cone shape for children look so appealing to children.

🌟Authentic South Indian Flavours and Warm Hospitality at The Madras Diaries

We recently dined at The Madras Diaries in Vancouver, and it was truly one of the most memorable South Indian dining experiences we’ve had in the city. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant felt warm and welcoming. The interiors are simple yet elegant, with a cozy and casual atmosphere that makes you feel instantly at home. It’s a wonderful spot whether you’re going out with family, friends, or even enjoying a relaxed solo meal.
The menu is impressive — filled with authentic dishes that showcase the bold and vibrant flavours of South India. We tried a few of their specialties, including the Madurai Malli Dosa, Kal Dosa with Chicken Curry, and their flavorful Ambur Biryani. Every dish was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and bursting with traditional spices and aromas. The dosas were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, paired with chutneys and sambar that tasted just like what you’d find in South India. The biryani was fragrant, rich, and full of depth — clearly made with care and attention to detail.
Service was another highlight. The staff were polite, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to offer recommendations and explain the dishes. Even during a busy dinner service, everything was well-organized, and our food arrived promptly and piping hot.
What impressed us most was the authenticity — the flavours are bold and true to their roots, not watered down for a Western palate. Portion sizes were generous, prices were reasonable, and the overall quality far exceeded our expectations.
If you’re craving genuine South Indian cuisine in Vancouver, The Madras Diaries is a must-visit. It’s a place where tradition meets taste, and you can feel the passion for food in every bite. We highly recommend it and will definitely be returning soon to try more from their menu!

Hands down our favorite East Indian restaurant. We've tried most of their dishes now and all were excellently prepared every time. My favorite though is still the goat curry. The ingredients are always very fresh and expertly prepared right in time for pick-up - not long before and getting cold. It's the only East Indian restaurant that allows us to substitute naan for the rice. We're of Chinese ancestry so we're used to the Chinese rice. Today the gave us extra paratha without us even asking. Always very friendly and excellent service and plenty of free parking in the strip mall. Highly recommend.
