Thierry is one of the best cafés in Vancouver. The variety is amazing; their chocolates and cakes are delicious, and the drinks are fantastic every single time.
It’s a beautiful, clean place and perfect for a date or spending time with someone special. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but the quality and experience make it worth it.
Also, it’s always busy for a good reason!

Just wanted to give you some feedback. This was a one-time thing for me - the seating was uncomfortable, and it was freezing inside with the AC on. Ironically, the patio outside felt warmer 😅.
I went out of my way to visit, hoping to enjoy it, but no luck. The chocolate was lukewarm, and the pastries were straight from the fridge - rock hard and not enjoyable. At least room temperature or warmed up would've been better. I struggled to cut them, and honestly, didn't feel like asking staff to heat it up given how cold everything was.
Total waste of $30. For comparison, I got a way better chocolate lava cake at Cactus Club where I went after. Guess I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

The desserts are incredible — honestly some of the best I’ve ever tried. You can really tell a lot of care goes into them. The coffee is decent and pairs nicely with the sweets. The location is great and the atmosphere is very friendly and cozy, making it a perfect place to relax, meet friends, or enjoy a quiet coffee break. Definitely a lovely little spot to visit.
Great site for a coffee and dessert

I absolutely love their desserts — they’re so rich and premium, every bite feels indulgent! I recently took my friend who was visiting from Seattle, and she and her kids loved it just as much as I do. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!

The dessert options are nice, but I have to say this is the worst chai latte I’ve ever had

Delicious liquid chocolate, recommended by a friend. So rich, so chocolatey.
I visited this place while visiting Vancouver. After reading online much about their chocolate marquise cake, paid a visit to them.
I ordered few items including chocolate marquise cake slice, handful of truffles, almond croissant and a cappuccino.
Let's start with chocolate marquise cake slice. It has around 5 layers to it. The top chocolate slate like layer is good, it's not very thick or dense and does not stick in the mouth. The chocolate mouse at the second layer is very heavy, dense and way over sweet. The mouse should be very light, soft but not in this case, and leaves after taste for sometime which I did not enjoy. The next two layers were way too thick, sticky, dense and quite hard to even cut it with knife to some extent. I think it's the thick caramel layer which just did not work very well with this cake. It took me a while to get rid of its taste in my mouth, had to drink lots of water to flush it out. The hazelnut wafer like layer at the bottom is also not very appetizing, at least for me. I think it's because of the previous two sticky and dense layers that threw my tastebud for the bottom layer. Overall, it's a failed cake slice.
The truffles were decent, some were very light and smooth while the others also were little dense.
Almond croissant had some funky smell to its filling, did not enjoy that at all.
Cappuccino was not over sweet, it's a big cup to juggle up for sure.
Service is good and quick. You're greeted right after entering into the store. It's located in the busy area of downtown surrounded by designer stores and lots of restaurants and corporate area, which keeps it running. Has small indoor seating area and handful outside the store.
Overall, it's a decent place to visit based on the hype it gets but nothing stands out about their pastries.

Restaurantji Recommends
My wife called and gave me a simple task:
“Go buy a cake.”
Simple? No.
Turns out many cake shops are closed on Mondays. Ordering online? Few days’ wait.
So the only option left was old-school — walk in and pray.
Since I was already there, I figured I might as well stay for lunch.
Let’s start with the coffee.
If I remember correctly, this might actually be one of the best cups I’ve had in Vancouver. Smooth, balanced, aromatic — the kind that makes you pause mid-sip and rethink your life choices.
Now… the grilled chicken.
Major disappointment.
And suddenly it all made sense why everyone around me was having dessert and coffee.
The bread — yes, I understand it’s “that style.” Rustic. European. Artistic. But it was still… quite hard. My jaw got more workout than the gym this week. The chicken? About half of it was dry enough to qualify as emotional support croutons.
But then — redemption.
The cake.
Crispy edges, rich chocolate flavor, fragrant, indulgent, and absolutely worth the trip. Simple conclusion: the cake is very good. Like, “this-is-why-you-exist” good.
So here’s the summary:
Coffee? Excellent.
Cake? Fantastic.
Grilled chicken? Let’s just say… stick to what they’re good at.
Next time, I’m ordering what everyone else is ordering.

I've been to Thierry a couple of times and the desserts are always beautiful and up to standard. I just wanted to highlight the lady working the front wearing a chic tweed blazer (I totally forgot her name) she is always kind smiling and helpful. I have purchased gift cards for pick up that were not yet ready or processed yet, and she kindly processed them on the spot for me. This is my second interaction with her, and she is amazing kind and efficient! I hope she gets the recognition she deserves.

Chocolate Marquis and salted caramel Macaroon was awsome
Selecting a chocolate pastry at Thierry is always a safe bet. While the non-chocolate options are not bad, there is significant room for improvement, particularly in texture and flavor balance.
Lemon Tart
The lemon tart possesses a pleasant citrus fragrance. I could taste the fresh zest used in the lemon curd, which provides a clean, refreshing flavor. However, the overall taste profile is a little thin and lackluster.
The main weakness is the crust: it lacks sufficient butter aroma and is not flaky or crisp enough. If the topping were replaced with a lightly torched Meringue or a Crème Brûlée-style caramelized top, it would introduce complexity and significantly enhance the texture contrast.
Millefeuille
The puff pastry texture of the Millefeuille seems to have been better in the past. The vanilla custard filling, unfortunately, has a very faint vanilla flavor, resulting in the entire dessert tasting quite bland. Furthermore, the custard was cooked too thick, completely losing the desired smooth and silken mouthfeel of a classic French custard.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Therefore, when visiting Thierry, one must choose a chocolate-based dessert to guarantee satisfaction. Options like the Chocolate Marquise, Chocolate Trio, or Pistachio Chocolate Cake are solid choices that will not disappoint. The other flavors definitely have potential but currently require substantial refinement.
One of three locations in the Lower Mainland. Downtown location, neighbouring restaurants, great for dessert and coffee after meals. Indoor and outdoor seatings available. Metered street parking.
