We celebrated my daughter’s birthday downtown and decided to stop by True Confections for dessert. My kids loved the wide variety of selections, and the cakes were absolutely delicious. The customer service was fantastic as well. Chichi noticed we were celebrating and added a candle to my daughter’s cake. The whole restaurant sang to her and made her feel so special. Thank you for helping make her day even brighter!

I visited the denman location for the first time on November 19 at 7:25pm. The cake was delicious as always but the cashier was rude and unwelcoming she was showing unnecessary attitude which ruined my whole experience, I normally visit the W Broadway location which has always been delightful. Unfortunately, I wont be visiting this location again

Pretty disappointed with the service. Gave me a bad and thin slice of cake. They used to be much more generous and considerate.

I really really like the desserts, but I have two beefs I’d like to share. I recently received a $3 discount coupon in email for leaving a previous review. When I tried to use it on the website, I got a pop-up message that said a minimum purchase of $30 is required in order to use the discount coupon. In the email it didn’t say that anywhere. It felt a bit misleading. Also, I’d like to note that in the past, the store had plastic gift cards. They don’t use them anymore, and they aren’t honoured if someone tries to use one they still have. When I gave one to a friend, I had no idea they would eventually be discontinued, just like I had no idea my friend would take a long time to try and use the gift card to buy anything…These are two things that have recently disappointed me about True Confections…

I was surprised to see the same cake sold for $10.99 here when Blendz (Davie/Bute) offers it for $6.99. I think that’s too steep for the same item, so I’ll go to Blendz next time.

Like many Vancouverites who enjoy a sweet treat now and then, a visit to True Confections for a huge slice of delicious cake is an indulgence to look forward to. For Mom’s birthday yesterday, I ordered her a Black Forest cake. Compared to other bakeries, True Confections is a premium choice at $60, but this isn’t just any ol’ bakery, and I wanted the best for my Mom.

Sadly, I chose poorly.

I love nothing more than to gush enthusiastically over quality restaurants and bakeries, but this was a comedy of disappointments that was anything but funny. Ordering online was easy, but that’s where the flattery ends. After picking it up, I walked out to the car while peering expectantly into the box. I didn’t say anything before showing it to my partner, but she had the same impression as I did – that’s a $60 cake?

It looked nothing like the photo on their website. The website shows 3 layers of cake, syrup colourfully drooling down the sides, and a generous island of cherry sauce and shaved chocolate on top. That cake was made with love. In reality, there are just two slices of cake, no colourful drizzle down the sides, and the island of goodies was half the size of the one in the photo.

My heart sank, but it was too late to do anything about it, as we were heading directly to my folk’s place for dinner. As we arrived, I grabbed the handle of the cake box, lifted it carefully from the back seat, and watched in horror as the handle ripped away and the box landed upside down on the pavement at my feet. Kirsten and I just looked at each other…this can’t be happening.

I carried the birthday cake corpse into Mom n’ Dad’s, and bless my mom’s heart, she just laughed and made jokes about it being a deconstructed Black Forest cake, or that it was actually an upside down cake. At this point it was down to taste, and at least that wasn’t a total disappointment. The cake itself was moist and flavourful, and what little there was of the cherry/chocolate topping was yummy. What should have been chantilly, however, seemed to be plain unsweetened whipped cream, lacking any hint of sweetness and vanilla that chantilly should have.

I thought I was spoiling my mom with a special treat last night, but the effort invested in the cake for their website photo was completely missing from the one they sold me. For sitting down to share a slice, we’ll still visit now and then, but with so many excellent bakeries in Vancouver, I don't recommend True Confections if you’re ordering a whole cake for a special occasion. If you do, don't rely on the photo on their website when choosing, and be aware that the box isn't well designed, so put a hand under it while carrying.

(I'd planned to take a photo of the cake once served to show the discrepancy between their photo and reality, but didn't get the chance. I assure you, there was no comparison.)

I was here 5 or 6 years ago when I was wandering around Canada and I still think about the carrot cake. It was so good it made me cry tears of joy 🥹

Placed an order on Ubereats and 45 mins later, still “preparing order”. Makes no sense when the place is not busy and it’s just putting a slice of cake in a box. Tried calling but phone line is “busy”.

Ordered a birthday cake for my infant, had placed the order well in advance, still the cake was really not up to the mark, as expected from true confection. The 7” layer cake- sponge was very dry, chocolate layer was very hard and the icing was also very hard and not at all flavourful. Really disappointed ☹️
