Editing again, after 2 years we go to Uma a couple times a month. The food is excellent, the staff is great. 5 Stars.
Edit to add: 1 year later and still 10/10.
Really good sushi. Highly recommend!
Great food, a bit expensive for the portions, but they’re fresh and tastes amazing.
My girlfriends favorite is the himawari donburi and I had the eel bowl (forgot name)
I was excited to find this sushi place because it’s with an actual Japanese chef but I ordered a donburi and it hardly looked anything like the photo and they were totally cheaping out with how much they put on there. They hardly put any fish on it compared to the photo, like it was a joke or something. I was too shy to complain so I resentfully ended up paying even though they didn’t follow through on what they promised. Disappointed and won’t be going back here.
Best sushi in the city hands down.
Very fresh and cute little sushi shop.
I know the economy is bad, but this portion size is genuinely laughable. I dined in yesterday after previously ordering nigiri through UberEats, and this visit was beyond disappointing. Based on online reviews, I expected a donburi with a generous selection of fresh fish—instead, I received paper-thin slices that barely qualified as sashimi. This was $25 plus taxes? What a waste of money. I also ordered a uni nigiri that tasted off–borderline spoiled. I flagged it to the waitress, who simply said she’d let the chef know. No apology, no concern, and definitely no offer to remove it from the bill. Yeah I’m never coming back again.
Little cute spot - no frills for a quick casual bite. I was running some errands during my layover in Van and this one was nearby with good reviews so I decided to give it a try. It was fresh and yummy. The chef looked seriously business lol
The waitress was very sweet and attentive. The table next to mine seems to be a family of regulars. That’s always a good sign.
All in all, liked it 👍
Eaten lunch several times at Uma Sushi. It's next to Mr. Japanese Curry. Service always prompt, teas continuously refilled. Lunch sets (11:30am to 3:00pm) and daily chalkboard specials.
- Sushi donut ($8.50) - have tried all three types. Okay but nothing special
- Nigiri - Hokkaido scallop ($4.25), sockeye salmon ($3.00), toro ($4.00), hamachi ($3.75), ika ($3.00) and tamago ($2.50). Everything was fresh, rice properly seasoned
- Beef set ($19.00) - tataki came in a tasty yuzu sauce. Thin beef slices were nicely marinated. Cold potato salad (ham and corn) was enjoyable
- Salmon set ($17.00) - salmon belly was tender. Pickled vegetables were slightly crunchy
- Assorted sushi ($23.00) - best nigiri were the amaebi and saba. Tuna maki was excellent
- Saba oshi ($14.00 for 6) - nicely seared. Saba was topped with a black garlic puree
- Tamanagi roll ($12.00 for 8) - don't see this unagi and tamago combo very often. Solid
- Chopped scallop roll ($7.00) - fresh
Best in Vancouver!!! Great service and amazing fresh fish!!!
PERFECT! I want to visit this place again.
It's better than sushi in Tokyo or Seoul.
Best sushi ever!

The food was great! The sushimi was very fresh. The spicy tuna rolls were absolutely AMAZING!! Highly recommend.
Some of the best and most underrated sushi in the city. Their atmosphere can use some work, but their service is always excellent. Food is always fresh and delicious, I love their real crab sushi rolls and their aburi platter.
Arguably some of the best, understated sushi in Vancouver. As someone who is picky about sushi I consistently order from Uma time and time again. Amazing quality, always fresh fish. Quaint restaurant for dine-in, but no compromises on quality if you choose to order to-go.
Think I might have found another sushi restaurant, this was amazing for quality and price.
Ordered takeout. The fish was so fresh. Looking forward to ordering from here again.
Loved the himawari donburi. For this quality, the price is so worth it.
