I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet. Shame on me. Grew up in the neighbourhood from elementary to high school and was eating here whenever I could in my mid to late twenties.
Now that I’ve moved a few cities away I couldn’t pass up a chance to stop by Uncle Mings when I was driving by.

Still has that hole-in-the-wall charm, don’t expect anything fancy. Run by an old couple (nearing retirement) they serve fast, hot, tasty, won’t-put-a-hole in ya wallet Chinese food. They have daily lunch specials which I remember used to be $5!!! when I first starting eating here as a young guy. Those were the days. Still a solid deal in today’s economy ranging from $12-15. That’s the price of a meal at McDs. If you got a bigger appetite go for the specials posted on the wall. They’ll willingly change things up for you if you want spicier or no spice or swap out the veg.

Aren’t many places like this anymore and with their age, go here and support the local businesses before it’s too late.

Rays Tips:
Parking in front and on side streets are free.
They take credit card payments now.
Specials posted on wall are a great deal.

I had a craving for Chinese food and did a Google search. I've tried everyone around my area in Marpole and found most of the Chinese restaurants overpriced and lacking flavour.
Found this little gem. We ordered wonton with noodles, beef and broccoli, special chow mein, pork and eggplant on rice and a couple of spring rolls. It was comfort food at it's best. Spring rolls were small but flavorful. All the dishes came out hot, fresh and tasty. Prices were very good. I can't wait to try their lunch specials. I'll be back often 🙂

Very nice couple who’ve been operating this restaurant for more than two decades now. Given minimum wage at time of writing is $17.85/hour & a fast food combo would already be $15, the fact they have lunch specials for $13 is a very reasonable deal. Taste, portion, and quality of ingredients are great as well, didn’t see much oil at the bottom of the container unlike some other places. Will revisit. Pictured is a Spicy Garlic Chicken Eggplant on Rice. They also confirmed the lunch specials can change if some ingredients are sold out during the lunch rush, but mentioned can call ahead to inquire. Lots of parking in residential blocks nearby. They take debit & credit cards, have a 10% cash only pick up on $40 or more, and also have $40 or more delivery in a 3KM radius (cash only).

This is a hidden gem Vancouver! Uncle Mings Kitchen is a small eatery and minimal but they are quick and the food is delicious with traditional Chinese comfort food. Shame on me as they have been in business last 20 years but I lived in this area all my life! It's only 10 minutes walk to Uncle Mings Kitchen and back. Last night was my second visit within one week, and won't be my last. Speaking to the owner of the restaurant, loved speaking to her about her history, cooking style and where they shop for ingredients. If you are ever in the area, check them out! Support local business.

Owners are delightful, and the food is delicious. Solid portions and all the classics at very reasonable prices.
While we were eating our lunch specials, a regular came in, the owner welcomed him warmly and started up his order without him even having to ask.
We will definitely be returning when we are in the neighborhood.
