We have been coming to Uprising Breads for many years. The food and coffee is always good. It is always hard to resist the treats and we rarely do. A cool place to sit down and take a break.

I loved the brownies here a few weeks ago. But I've been back a couple of times and I haven't been able to find them since. When do the brownies go on the shelf?

The pictures look better than what it is. It's kind of empty and sad here.

The staff have to buzz you into the bathroom. I feel weird asking.

The sandwiches are not good.

I don't frequent this place often but whenever I am in the area and in need of coffee/lunch on the go I love it. Very cozy place, always busy, and never had anything from them I didn't enjoy. Also reasonably priced and staff have always been great, friendly and efficient (which is appreciated). Great place in an area of town where it can be hard to find a decent drink and food to go, or to eat in. Worth checking out, especially on a rainy Vancouver day.

Good coffee but worst customer service. They look at you like a zombie like you have made a mistake coming to their store. Very unwelcoming environment.

One of my regular spots. Delicious, affordable simple sandwiches are a hidden gem on the menu.

Cozy little bakery and cafe with lots of options. We loved the triple chocolate brownie and mango cake!

Bake goods are great and tasty. However cashier was super rude. Literally self-served to pick up a few pre-packaged baked goods (eg lemon pound cake, cookies and small muffins), proceeded to pay - no I didn’t tip because I wasn’t served and picked the baked good myself (no one served it to me). When the tip option was prompted (starting with 12%), and when I didn’t tip, the cashier who was hovering over me the entire time during payment said “thank you, we don’t deserve a tip” in a very rude and sarcastic way. I thought that was uncalled for and super rude especially given I was with my 8 year old child and he said it to both of us. My child asked me why he was rude after the transaction when we left the store. We felt unwelcomed and it was a splurge for us to go here as a “trip” with my child. Visit date was Nov 8, 5:40 pm. Cashier was tall and he had dark hair. Management should consider coaching

Love this place. It's has a unique feel and sense of community. Lately it feels like things have been changing for the worse. The coffee isn’t Salt Spring anymore, the raisin bread tastes off, and the danishes are often flat and not fluffy like before. Still a nice spot, just not quite what it used to be.

I believe that the old owner retired and there is new management. I love this place and appreciate the desire to bring a new flavour but please don't cut quality, folks are noticing.

I have been a loyal customer of Upraising Breads Bakery for a long time, regularly visiting your establishment to purchase a dozen muffins each week for my employees. However, I feel compelled to share a concern regarding the sanitation practices I recently observed.

During my most recent visit, I noticed staff handling food items and packaging (such as lids and bags) immediately after handling loose change, without washing their hands or using hand sanitizer. While tongs were used at times, this inconsistent hygiene practice raises concerns about food safety.

I brought this issue to the attention of an employee, who seemed reluctant to address it and dismissed the use of hand sanitizer. When I escalated the matter to the manager(Rick), I was met with an unprofessional and dismissive attitude. Instead of addressing my concerns, the manager stated that staff cannot wash their hands after every cash-paying customer and appeared more focused on questioning my purchase.

As a loyal customer, I am disappointed by this response. Food safety and proper sanitation should always be a top priority, especially in a food service environment. I sincerely hope that you take this feedback seriously and provide additional training to your staff on maintaining proper hygiene practices.
