Vallarta's Mexican Restaurant

Finally tried this little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place after driving by it for YEARS.
Surprisingly good food, exactly like you would get in a restaurant for locals in Mexico. The chicken flautas were perfect, well-filled and not greasy. The rice and beans were well seasoned, everything was prepared with care. The margarita was excellent, shaken with ice, not too sweet. Recommended.

Vallarta's is a staple Mexican restaurant in the Renfrew area. If you want to try some Mexican dishes I would give them a try. Their salsa for their tacos is a bit spicy so be warned.

Vallarta's is a family owned restaurant that's an Institution in Vancouver. It's been at Renfrew/Broadway for decades, as long back as I can remember.

I went today and got some flautas and pupusas (one is enough). The flautas were amazing. Delicious, fresh cooked, I loved the sides of rice, beans and salad. The flautas were crispy, salad was a nice balance, and rice and beans were perfect.

The food reminded me of being in Mexico - it reminded me of food I had in Mexico City, way back in the 90's. The atmosphere of the restaurant felt like a relocation to Mexico as well - people that the cashier recognized came in, a concert was being broadcast on the t.v., people were quietly eating. The restaurant is small with small booths.

The cashier was the most welcoming person I've dealt with at a restaurant in a long time. Sometimes, places are staffed with unhappy, worn out people and maybe they have to deal with difficult public. I felt very welcome at Vallarta's, and now I'm comfortably full with a balanced, memory tweaking meal.

Soggy quesadillas, very bland flavour in tacos and meat. Shrimp is 😖. The guacamole is usually the best but this time I was very disappointed. This used to be my fav Mexican spot but sadly it seems Vallartas has really gone downhill. I hope they can up their game and get back to there old ways. I won’t be coming back anytime soon.

Really good! I imagine this is what homemade Mexican food taste like.

As a visitor this is one of the first places we stopped and had no idea what it would be like. The food was really good. Prices were a tad higher than normal for just tacos, but I can't complain!

Would recommend getting this place out if you get a chance!

I'd say this place is one to try again. Our first experience was good, but the food was slightly underwhelming. I'd like to start by saying that the food was like home cooked food in many ways. With that though, some of it was under seasoned for my palette.
The food was decent and I would like to try again. Lovely people who are there!

Great food and service. I had a Lengua and beef burrito. And it was delicious and filling! Gonna be my new go to spot when craving a burrito. The horchata was great too. Will be to try the other items here as well! Highly recommend for a pretty authentic Mexican spot.
