I dropped by the restaurant to try their lychee dessert – a dish that’s currently trending in Vietnam. Unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The hygiene standards were clearly lacking. While eating, my friend discovered a curly hair in the dessert. It was honestly disturbing and made us lose our appetite.

This was our first meal after arriving in Vancouver, as we landed quite late — thankfully, this restaurant stays open very late, which was a huge plus. The food was tasty and the prices were very reasonable. They were also happy to accommodate our requests and even provided extra sauces when we asked.
The staff, especially the guys working at the front, were always friendly and helpful — whether it was offering more sauce or helping us navigate the menu. We ordered takeout from here several times during our stay.
The restaurant is quite busy, so there was usually a bit of a wait, but the food was definitely worth it — fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. We were very pleased every time.

When it is late late and most places offering homey Asian food are closed and you just want some good pho and butter garlic chicken wings, this place delivers. But also, just any time really. Honestly, the pho is up there with the best I have tried from this kind of Vietnamese family owned businesses in Vancouver. No frills just the real deal. Good quality beef brisket and beef balls, noodles and broth. They don’t do the cheap wilted basil leaves or lemon wedges here. You get fresh basil and lime wedges for your noodles.
I have also had good delivery experiences.

I really like the food there’s no problem with it at all, so I’m giving 5 stars for the food. However, I’m rating the service 2 stars because there was no initiative from the staff, especially when it came to refilling water. They also didn’t check in to ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. For the atmosphere, I’m giving 1 star because it was very hot inside; the air conditioning wasn’t on. Every time we dine at Vietmama, the AC is off. The pictures I uploaded show a stain from a marker on our table. I also noticed that the light bulb in the ceiling above the cashier was blinking. I had previously seen that same blinking bulb near the entrance door, but now it seems they’ve just moved it. My suggestion is to please turn on the AC at all times, especially now that it’s summer. Also, kindly replace the blinking light bulb and remove the pen marker stain on the table.
