I've always been a fan of VJ’s, but this time I was disappointed. The food didn’t feel worth the price — it was way too expensive for the quality served. While the rooftop space looked nice, there was something about the vibe that felt off. It didn’t have the positive energy I expected; instead, it felt like sitting in a contained, closed-off space. Not sure if I come back.
Fantastic experience with my mom. Food was delicious and service made us feel very welcome. Great covered patio on second floor. Chef Vij came out to greet everyone. Su was great at explaining the dishes.
Excellent food and exceptional service. Gunpowder pork and lamb gosht was awesome. The kulfi in dessert was mind blowing. Thank you Vikram for checking around repeatedly on the food and for taking a picture with us. Will definitely visit again when in Vancouver.
Great food and great service. Highly recommend it.
We’d been meaning to try Vij’s for over a decade by now, and finally got a chance to for a special occasion. If like me you’re on the fence thinking it can’t possibly live up to the hype - absolutely go without a second thought. Just the fact that chef Vij still takes the time to walk the room all night and genuinely enjoys greeting guests should tell you all there is to know: this is a place where everyone cares that guests have the best possible experience. And from the great service and advice by our waitress Nisha to, of course, the excellent food, we were very impressed with our experience. Every dish was on point, a modern and tasteful take on Indian food. Special mention for the eggplant and of course the range of freshly baked breads.
Thank you to the whole team for making our much delayed first visit a memorable one - and looking forward to the next.
We had a group of 30 people and the restaurant opened half an hour earlier for us.
The moment we walked in we were greeted by the friendly staff and then the Chef/Owner Vikram Vij!! The Chef chose our dishes and each was played with intention and was delicious!
Everything I ate had layers of flavour and was so amazing. We ate 8+ plates and left there stuffed. The owner even came outside to take pictures with us.
So worth it in every level.
Went for a drink after dinner and sat at the bar. Chatted with Chef Vij for a bit about my parents anniversary, UBC alumni, and my friend's mom wine chiller. At the end, he gave us a tour of the restaurant, which was a nice touch. Will come back to have a meal next time.
The overall experience was overrated. We were sat upstairs where we instantly noticed a lack of airflow and humidity.
We ordered our dishes based on Vikram's recommendations - who visited tables personally and insisted people enjoy his food.
The lamb popsicles were very chewy but well seasoned. The "better butter chicken" was anything but better - I've had better butter chicken for $10.99 from random hole in the walls. The naan wasn't even naan - it was more of a bread due to the thickness. Lastly, the alpaca biryani was so salty we could only take a few bites. Most of our dish were left up to 90% full still and we are the furthest from picky eaters.
Upon mentioning the salt level to the waiter, he insisted that he would like the back staff know and that was all, no attempt to remedy our situation.
Definitely will not be returning as the restaurant is missing the most important part of a restaurant - good food.
*Honestly, I was going to give it 3 stars but reading all the passive aggressive responses to the negative reviews leaves an even more bitter taste in my mouth.

The food was above average except the momos, the Goan Halibut Curry and the Lamb Popsicles. The rest was a bit disappointing: the spring rolls were very oily and you would taste oil more than any other ingredient. The same goes for the fried eggplant where the green peas were overpowering and the eggplants were lost in the dish.
The service was good overall (except miss outs on snacks, no menu for 10 minutes…)
The atmosphere was warm and it was bubbly inside.
Would I go back? Probably no. But, a big shoutout to Vikram himself for checking on our table a few times.

Food was okay. Waiter was fantastic. What sucked was the wait times. Our food took fooooorever to come out. Sat at 6:30, left at 9:30 just waiting around for our food. Won’t be back.

I did order Shahi Paneer and Lamb Lollipops. I felt like Shahi Paneer is way too saltier than expected and I told server as well and she said it is supposed to be like that. I couldn’t eat Shahi paneer and did take out for that and brought it home. I warmed it up and pictures are attached. The amount of oil completely it has is insane. If we are paying a premium price at least put some butter or clarified butter or at least less oil. Snacks were ok but main course I will give 1 star.

Very disappointed! We have had much better food in N.E. Calgary, as well as on the trains in India. Unfortunately I was able to give Vikram feedback (way too salty on some dishes and bland on others) and he quickly dismissed it (instead of being humble and apologetic). Don’t waste your time and money.

This restaurant is pure magic. I have eaten all over the world and this was one of my all time favorite restaurant experiences. Vij is a true restauranteur who clearly cares about all of his diners and his staff. I couldn't recommend this place enough! If you're in Vancouver, you must come here!
