This used to be Shimaya sushi, owned and prepared by Fukushima san, the sushi chef who worked at the iconic Chiyoda on Alberni street 25 years ago. He was an amazing sushi chef.
I visited this place for the first time since the new owner took it over with high expectations, and ordered omakase sushi. Unfortunately the neta fishes were watery with no taste, (he probably didn’t age them or poor preparation), shari rice was also too weak with the vinegar, unfortunately the sushi was one of the worst we’ve eaten in Vancouver. I travel to Japan a lot for business and eat Edomae sushi all around Ginza, Higashi-ginza, Nihonbashi and Tsukiji areas so know what excellent sushi are.
We will not visit here again.

I really enjoy my sushi there. I went on a Wednesday evening so it wasn't too busy.

Tasty food. Quite and calm atmosphere. A little pricey and limited seating, but I was able to be seated right away at their table.

Mom and pop type place. A very small and cosy venue. Food was very good. The tuna in my udon was very fresh, tender and delicious. My only complaint is that the portion size was small for my liking.

This is a very cozy little place, but definitely a gem. Reservations are highly recommended, as it they only have a few tables. A mom and pop shop, but everything seemed to be very fresh.

We had:
Beef Tataki ($18.95) - The amount and the taste of the sauce was perfect. Meat was super tender.
Chirashi Sushi Bowl ($37.00) - Quite a variety of fish and they were very generous with the amount of fish.
Unagi Don ($24.50) - Comes in a cute little box, and a good amount of unagi as well.

The prices are a little on the high side, but I thought it was well worth it for the quality that they provide.

Service was excellent. Very attentive.

Very cozy, welcoming, and high quality. Each piece of omakase nigiri was incredible with some interesting flavor combinations. Highly recommend this spot for an authentic sushi experience at a very reasonable price.

Fresh, some rolls seem to be pricier than you would expect. Older, dated decor, but clean

bar seating + ~4 tables. small and casual place. super fresh tasting sushi with real wasabi! i recommend the omakase nigiri (12 pieces for ~$50), which comes with miso soup. my favorite pieces were the unagi and scallop!

Great little find! The tuna Natto was amazing! Always had natto on it's own but natto with tuna and works really well together! I saw alot of people getting the Omakase so next time around, I'm going to try that!
