I came to Victoria as a tourist in Feb 2016 and the lovely Americano at Bean Around the World helped influence my decision to move here permanently. I'm a big fan of the coffee (my favorite espresso roast on earth) and the atmosphere.
Room for improvements are the selections of sweets and consistent presentation. In my experience, sometimes the baristas pour lovely art... and other times they just dump everything into a cup and you sit down beside someone with something aesthetic and learn you ordered the same thing. 🤷🏽♂️

Like I have almost every day for the last 15 years in coffee shops from Seattle to Europe, this morning I ordered four shots over extra ice in a 16 oz iced cup (to later splash it with cream and simple syrup). I even asked about what their iced cups look like before purchase. The barista pointed them out and proceeded to charge me, along with $30 of other items (plus tip). What was given to me was an 8 oz cup full of the shots and a little ice, not the 16 oz like we chatted about. 8oz vs 16oz is not the end of the world and not a huge deal; instead, this 2 star review is about the way they treated me after inquiring about it.
After asking if I could have a cup for iced coffee, the staff huddled and then came back and said that they don't usually give out iced cups because they don't want to be taken advantage of. She mentioned that sometimes people will fill them up with a ton of cream and the drink turns out to be more like a breve. If this is a commonplace move that patrons pull, I suppose I can appreciate that it is totally questionable when folks order an iced drink. They did give me a cup (albeit a 12oz cup), which I appreciated and thanked them for. However, getting the cup came with such a level of suspicion and obvious annoyance that I wound up feeling like I had done something wrong and was trying to take advantage of the business, which was definitely not my intention.
If this is a common maneuver folks are pulling to get a low-cost breve (which I get is completely ludicrous), I don't understand why there isn't signage somewhere or a heads up at the point of sale? Some coffee shops that I've come across keep the creamer behind the counter and the barista pours upon request from the customer. Maybe something like this would be better than making your customer feel like they are trying to take advantage of a small business when they are actually just trying to get caffeinated with their preferred beverage before hopping in a car full of kids for the next 8 hours? I am not concerned with not getting the perfect cup of coffee, but the assumptive tone and the feeling of being singled out in a cafe full of people is a pretty lousy way to treat customers. Not recommended if you like cold drinks!

Every place I go.... I get a Breve' and it's made with 33% cream.... Starbucks, Moka house, Higher Ground, Good Earth. At this place I made sure that they would be doing it that way and they said oh we don't do it that way we don't make it that way and we won't make it that way. WHAT'S the point of spending $10 which included tip if they're not going to make your coffee the way you want it. Update.....My friend that was with me, asked for a splash of whip cream in his coffee and was also refused...... Bad customer service. On a final note, I forgot to mention.... it would be nice if all customer service places would give their employees name tags that they are required to wear. This incident above is a teachable moment. Unfortunately, the owner will not be able to help those individuals be better at their job. There were three people involved and none of them fessed up.

Both my friend and I are very positive individuals. It was the attitude I received from the first individual and then I was ganged up on by two others that came to that individual's rescue even though I tried to be positive all I got was negative feedback. I was not offered any alternative and I was not offered my moneyback. THEY HAD NOT STARTED TO MAKE MY COFFEE AND AGAIN SUPER POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
