The salmon and caper bagel has stale bread and almost no cream cheese or salmon, and if you purchase any of the cream cheese icing or cheesecake be prepared for it to be closer to cottage cheese

I live in the neighborhood, however I don’t that often. I feel each time I’ve gone over the last year things seem to be a little less… this morning my coffee maker decided to die… so I stopped, the service was great, my coffee hot and delicious, the pastry… a little stale…

The matcha was so clumped and I felt that it was being made really rushed
Costed 6.50$ because of soy milk and it was a small, really disappointing

I don’t understand all of the good reviews of this place. I’m all for supporting local and not saying the bad thing when it’s not productive but when I see a place with such good reviews and have a terrible experience myself, I have to wonder if it’s just a case of, “that’s all we can get here,” so it’s considered awesome based on what’s available. But that is just not true. There are several excellent pastry shops very nearby. And on a Saturday morning, my expectations are high. I was sadly disappointed.

1. Everything looks and tastes like it was made days ago or put on display from frozen. The taste and texture of pastries like the (pale, undercooked, rubbery) croissants and the (disgusting) Portuguese tarts is greatly affected when they’re frozen and it shows. 0/5

2. The Portuguese tarts were such a let down. I’ve been looking all over Victoria for these and I honestly think they need to remove them from their menu. The texture of the pastry and the custard was gross. I literally spit it out. They’re so far off base they shouldn’t even be considered if you’re looking for Pastel de Nata. On top of that, I’m pretty sure they’re previously frozen as I mentioned above. Yuck. 0/5

3. The cookies were barely passable as restaurant quality. We got the peanut butter and the chocolate chip and they tasted burnt and fatty and the chocolate tasted cheap. 0/5 Walk across the street to The Breakfast Shop instead. You’ll thank me later.

For these prices, I expect a lot higher quality, especially with amazing spots in the city like Crust, Working Culture, and Goodside. I definitely won’t try this place again.

Sadly when they changed, they're signature portuguese tarts are no longer the same. They said they didn't change the recipe but clearly they did.

And I missed the guy with the raccoon tail. 😆

Cute, quaint cafe! Drip coffee with oat milk a bit pricy for what it is.

Poor service and very disappointing experience. Their menu is written in chalk, but most of the items weren’t actually available. For example, out of at least four sandwiches listed, they only had one. We ordered and paid, and then were told the sandwich we ordered was sold out and the only option left was egg salad.

We took it anyway, but it was genuinely foul. The worst egg salad sandwich I’ve ever had. I took one bite of an $8 sandwich and had to throw it out. Between the lack of communication, misleading menu, and poor food quality, I wouldn’t return.

New owners, new menu items, improved quality, much cleaner. Refreshing changes. Cozy and friendly. Recommend!

I have always liked their goods, I think the quality of food is great. I’m writing this review to hopefully give them a nudge to clean the place. It is so dirty, that I found myself questioning the hygiene of the food I was eating. If the visible part is this dirty, I wonder how it is in the back.

Service very slow. Was ignored by cashier who was chatting with another staff member who was making drinks. It’s looking a little rough around the edges inside for sure.

I had a really disappointing experience at this café. I ordered a cinnamon bun with cream cheese frosting, and as soon as I tasted it, I knew something was wrong. The frosting had a sour, rancid smell which resembled the smell of a strong Parmesan. that completely ruined the treat. It was honestly pretty shocking that it was served in that condition.

Small and cozy, this place is a comfort on a rainy day. Although they were out of cinnamon buns, the pumpkin spelt muffin was a delicious consolation treat. Coupled with my delicious latte, this was a perfect mid-cycling treat!

Bubby Rose’s is one of those neighbourhood spots that just feels like home. The coffee is always rich and smooth, and the baked goods are absolutely delicious, especially their pizza slices, muffins, and Portuguese tarts! Everything tastes fresh and made with real care. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet morning moment. Staff are friendly and down-to-earth, and there’s a lovely sense of community here. Definitely one of my favourite go-to cafés in Victoria! ☕🍰

This place is fantastic in every way except for how hot it always is during summer. I wish they’d keep the door open or invest in air conditioning. It’s stifling. Even the consistently ultra-cool and thoroughly wonderful staff can’t lower the temperature to bearable.
