I lived next door for years and loved the food just ordered two dishes for a friend and myself and was sadly disappointed there was not much more in the house chowmain other than noodles and the other dish consisted of 5 stalks of celery myby one carot and a couple nuts...that cost $50 and I asked for 6 soy got two...I'm so sad I loved their food before but I'll NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN.

Update - I brought my Mom here for dimsum and it was terrible. There was only one staff member walking around with a dim sum food cart and the place was packed. The dim sum we ordered took a long time to arrive, then was served lukewarm and was so salty!! What a disappointment from the first time we were here. Save your money and go somewhere else for dimsum.First time here. Went for dim sum with the family for my Mom's birthday. The dim sum was fresh and very good. The service was top notch. A bit on the pricey side but worth it. I highly recommend for dim sum.

Each dumpling was expertly crafted with a thin, translucent wrapper that perfectly encased a succulent shrimp filling. The flavors were well-balanced, and the texture was spot-on. Simply delicious.Another standout dim sum item was the fried bean curd roll with shrimp. The rolls were crispy on the outside, revealing a piping hot and flavorful filling of tender shrimp. The combination of the crispy exterior and the juicy shrimp inside created a delightful contrast of textures. It was a dish that I couldn't resist ordering seconds of.Apart from the fantastic dim sum, the service at Golden City Restaurant was commendable. It was refreshing to dine in a Cantonese restaurant where the service was 100% authentic, as they didn't ask the usual generic questions like "How is the food?", which added to the overall authenticity of the experience. lolIn conclusion, Golden City Restaurant exceeded my expectations with its superb dim sum offerings. The shrimp dumplings and fried bean curd roll with shrimp were outstanding in terms of taste and quality. We've been coming here for a few months now. Their dim sum is fresh and good quality. Their dinner options are also tasty and reasonably priced. I was told the chef changed a few months ago, which could explain their lower rating on here, but I highly recommend it!
Good selection of dim sum dishes and the restaurant felt clean. The decor is showing its age and there isn't enough natural light.

Service is below par. Ordered 4 items from the dim sum menu and for 30 minutes, no one checked back to see if I needed anything. The restaurant was operating at 40% capacity so can't say they were busy. I politely asked the waitress to check my order and I soon was told it will be another 5 minutes because the kitchen forgot they ran out of paper, I'm thinking the rice roll with shrimp that I ordered? So.....what about the other 3 items???? After a so called 5 more minutes which actually took 12 minutes, food came out. No offer of any condiments like soy sauce or hot sauce etc. Is this the standard that is out in Victoria? Or is it just a cultural standard. If I was at Whitespot, I'm sure the waitres/waiter and manager would be mortified of what happened and offer to comp the meal. What is your wager? Do you think the culture in this type of service industry gets it? Good service good= good tips and good review. Nad Service= bad reviews and no tips. I wonder if I left 1 penny for tip would they get it??

The food was good quality but certainly not the best dim sum joint in town. I'd say this is a solid second place!! Make a reservation for busy hours as you can expect a wait time if you walk in. Fast service but definitely not friendly service. Good place for families with little ones and decent pricing for the amount you get.
