My husband is British and very (very) particular about his fish and chips. We picked up an order from Haultain Fish & Chips last night and he was very pleased with the quality of both. Thank you to the hardworking staff at Haultain Fish & Chips!

Good food, great service

Picked up 2 halibut dinners & 1 halibut burger. The fish was very dry & the breading was rock hard & difficult to cut. Total bill was $76. Very disappointed in quality.

What to say? The place is deadly, they give you way too many fries and wrap them in newspaper, the fish is moist and delicious and i checked out that fry oil and it looked clean baby, cleaner than a cookout at your mums house. The house tartar sauce wasn’t anything special I’m pretty sure they just jazz up some mayonnaise and to be hones to don’t think they should be charging extra for it, but who knows maybe they will read this and have a change of heart. I’d like to imagine that’s the case because the friendly lady at the counter had a cool fleece sweater that said haultain on it, so she is obviously a seasoned vet. Anyways I think they’ve got new owners in the past couple few years but the place is still serving it up like it’s 1980 something pre-cell phone era goodness in there, but with clean cooking oil. Would recommend.

Definitely one of the best fish & chips in town, I’m usually picky and these were fine without any dipping too. We tried their halibut, calamari, shrimps and oyster, they were delicious.

I’m not a big fan of those chips, they were okay.

Very attentive and made sure our water is filled when empty.

Hands down the best fish and chips in town. I've been coming here for over 20 years now and they have always been consistent with the quality and great portions. 5/5

This place has the best takeout fish and chips in Victoria. Period. I’m honestly so surprised by the lower stars - I genuinely feel that Haultain’s is delicious AND for an amazing price. Everything is always very fresh (i’m so surprised that there’s some reviews that say otherwise). The owners are also an incredibly sweet couple, it feels so good supporting their local business. I HIGHLY recommend getting takeout here to anyone!!!

Good fish. Lots of fries

My TINY $12 piece of halibut was perfectly rhombus shaped - another review said the fish tasted like it was previously frozen - which would explain the cookie cutter shape. NO comparison to Barb's Fish and Chips at Victoria Fisherman's Wharf. I gave them 2 stars instead of one star, because they use newspaper to wrap their dinners - more restaurants should do that. I only went there because it was close by. Never again. I assumed it would be better value than fish-&-chips-serving-pubs/restaurants with nice decor and atmosphere because of their lower overhead. I should have ordered take-out from a pub. Would have been better value/better quality. The sides are also way overpriced for the tiny portions you receive.

Everything is À la cart, making prices way higher than they should be. The fish its self is bland and a little fishy tasting even, the coleslaw was blah and they gave a ridiculous amount of chips for the small portion size of the fish and the fries were nothing special. $30 dollars for the most sub par fish and chips I’ve had anywhere! If you’re in the mood for good fish and chips and want to spend a reasonable price, there are several better options here in this little city of Victoria.
