I honestly don’t understand the hype. I got the spicy miso tonkotsu ramen. It was just okay.

The broth is too thick for my liking. Someone wrote that it felt like a flavourless thickening agent was added. I agree and I think they are boiling the noodles in the soup which releases the wheat from it into the broth. I don’t prefer this method or the effect of that.

I also don’t prefer the straight wheat noodles. This is personal preference. I much like the bouncy yellow noodles.

The service was great. My server was kind and regularly refilled my water which was nice!

Overall, I just don’t get what all the fuss is about. Nothing particularly bad, just not as amazing as I had hoped.

We had a great time at Kizuna!

The price for ramen is higher than other locations in Victoria, but I think Kizuna's quality and portion size are arguably worth it.

The black garlic tonkotsu ramen was $21 and included two slices of chashu and a full ajitama (plus a few other toppings). The ajitama was perfectly jammy and well marinated. The broth was rich and tasted perfectly of pork. The black garlic oil added to the experience without competing with the flavor of the broth.

The noodles were quite unique. They appeared to almost have a percentage of whole wheat flour, based on their appearance. They were bouncy and chewy... the texture held up even at the end of my bowl.

I was unable to finish my bowl, so they do not skimp on ramen portions!

I sampled a bit of the pork gyoza. The fried flour skirt was beautifully crisp, and the flavors of cabbage and onion came through beautifully. The portion size was a little small, however, with just 5 pieces.

The dining area is small, so be prepared to wait a little while if you come during peak hours.

Service was friendly and prompt, and the interior is minimalist and clean.

I'll be back! The chashu rice bowl might be the next item on my list to try...

Some of the best ramen I've had in my life. Comparable to Danbo in Vancouver. I ordered extra noodles for my young child, and he asked for a third helping.

The black garlic tonkotsu ramen was fantastic. Creamy and flavourful.
We went in just as the place opened so it was quiet with very quick service.

I am very picky about ramen and haven't liked most of the ramen I've had in Victoria (Kuma noodle is probably my favourite but I've had better other places). This place has finally broken Victoria's streak of mediocre ramen. The black garlic tonkotsu broth was deep, rich and flavourful and the meat was tender and delicious. Also, the guy working there (and maybe the guy who runs the place?) was super chatty, friendly and personable, which I don't think is at all a requirement at any restaurant but was nice. You also get a WHOLE RAMEN egg rather than only half, so I'd say the $21 price tag was well worth it. The ambience is also lovely and it's a great place to eat with other people or alone. Can't recommend this place enough! The skinny wheat noodles were also different (for me) and delicious.

The ramen is high quality and may be the best broth I've had in Victoria - it certainly rivals Menbow for best ramen on the island in my opinion.

The negative was the server. He was very overbearing and odd. He tries to be friendly and charming, but is very overwhelming and lowkey inappropriate. He was outwardly flirting with my girlfriend and said he would buy her ice cream. We work in healthcare and work with a lot of addiction patients. We agreed that he was likely an ex-addict by his mannerisms, personality and overall appearance. It's great he is working but I don't think he should be a host! Some people may like his style but I was seeing half of the people there quite uncomfortable, including us even though we were trying to make small talk.

Just order take out if you are unsure, it's worth trying. Otherwise you've been warned!
