Each of my visit to this establishment has left me more concerned about their pest control and cleanliness. On multiple occasions, I have personally seen rats running along the floor and near the seating area, even when customers were present. It is extremely unsettling to sit and drink coffee while watching rodents move around the space.
What worries me even more is that there never seems to be any visible response from staff when this happens. Friends of mine have also shared similar experiences with rats in and around this location, so it does not appear to be an isolated incident. For a food and beverage establishment, this raises serious questions about hygiene, food safety, and overall sanitation practices.
I was looking to get a couple treats and support local but I am really disappointed by the service. There was one person in front of me, they took about five minutes to order as they were talking with the worker which caused a line to form behind me. Following that delay I ordered two cookies and one sausage roll not heated as I wanted them to go. I then waited another five minutes to only get 1 cookie and 1 sausage roll. I watch the worker talk and giggle with an another employee while the lollygagged while collecting my order. I will never go back nor will I never recommend this place.
The interior was gorgeous with an adorable gift shop to match. It was quite busy so there was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it for how delicous the food was.
If you love tea, you must visit this store!!! The in-house cafe offers a endless delicious combination of hot beverages, snacks, sandwiches and pastries. The store itself offers a massive selection of loose leaf and pre-packaged teas, coffees, hot chocolate and a huge selection of cups, tea pots and accessories. Plus, during our visit, the store was already decorated for Christmas...so it felt more like a seasonal destination than a shopping experience.
I went to Murchies with a few colleagues because I wanted to taste a couple of kinds of tea before buying. At home I use 1 bag of black tea for a big pot (2-3 big mugs) and steep for 4 minutes (which matches the instructions on their website).
But the counter staff used 2 tea bags for each 8-10 oz pot, and also steeped them too long before giving them to us! It was soooooo bitter, all any of us could taste were the tannins. I’m not sure what the reasoning is, and it really put all of us off buying.
The Nanaimo bars were perfection, though.
Their tarts are tasty. The shop’s atmosphere is comfy especially when collaborating with the gift shop.
Nice cuppa tea. Scones had run out, poppy day related? Nice shortbread. Pleasant and helpful staff. Nice clientele
There is something heartwarming and nostalgic about the space. Tea for as long as the eye can see and friendly staff - try the Mr Darcy strawberry tea latte!!!
Undoubtedly my favorite cafe in Victoria! I am a massive tea lover and am so glad they offer some fun drinks such as permanent and seasonal tea lattes, in addition to regular cafe menu items. The pastries are amazing and the sandwiches are perfect! I’ve gotten the Filone multiple times, the melted Brie is amazing and the beef pulls it all together!
The store side is beautiful as well, with more options here than any other location! They get so festive for the holidays, and it just makes for the best spot, the people are wonderful, the atmosphere is comforting!
Very nice place, wonderful attention to detail. Only thing a bit annoying was needing passwords for bathroom and WiFi but it is understandable.

This is a rather overrated tea shop and cafe in the heart of Victoria's commercial district. I had an afternoon tea and dessert here. They were fine, but nothing exceptional. The service was rather apathetic and lackadaisical. There were also numerous flies all over the shop.
Staff anre excellent but for a tiny sandwich for 10.50 plus tax n tip the sandwich is way too small with little turkey. Shrinkflation.. but really doesn’t seem right but needs to be address this from corporate.
Yummy Pumpkin Spice Tea.
Historically, I haven't been successful with their customer service. I waited in line for 25 minutes to order a cake arriving at 1611 and finally reaching the cashier at 1636. In 5 minutes, I moved an inch. One cashier and five servers. Perhaps the cashier should not be responsible for getting the baked goods as well or train more staff to take orders.
My review is for the online store. I placed an order with Murchie's. I was informed that my package would be shipped to me on VI by Loomis Express because of the disruptions at Canada Post. Loomis Express in Victoria delayed delivery for four days, and then delivered it to the wrong house. Total Loomis clown show.
