Fabulous view, wonderful atmosphere, adequate service, good selection of drinks. However the food is expensive and disappointing. Salad was good, the burgers OK, but the Chicken Marsala did not satisfy.

We were at the spa and decided to stop for a bite. Unfortunately we didn’t have a reservation so we ended up seating outside in the hotel side. There was live music and was very enjoyable. The food was great and the service although busy, was not bad.

We visited the Snug Pub while staying at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel as locals celebrating a birthday. We made a reservation ahead of time and noted the same. Unfortunately the restaurant’s poor service and overpriced fare left much to be desired.

1. Despite making a reservation, we were seated in the portion of the restaurant that extends into the hotel lobby where half our table was against a wall, blocking the view of the ocean. This wouldn’t have been a big deal, but when I got up later to use the washroom I saw that the pub side was virtually empty with ample seating along unobstructed windows.
2. We felt like an afterthought, as while our server was very friendly it took 15 minutes before she came to our table and a full hour before our dinner was served.
3. They kept turning the lights on and off throughout the evening, apparently trying to figure out how to dim them for the first time in the hotel’s 14 years?
4. The food was good, but priced about 50% more than what is reasonable to expect for what you get.
5. When paying the bill the server causally asked if we were visiting for a special occasion (funny how they ask when the card is in the machine and not when they seat you…). She had no idea we were there to celebrate a birthday despite the reservation being made noting that fact.

We won’t be back.

The mind-numbing background music was absolutely awful. Honestly, I think that music has been created to destroy brain cells. It was bad enough that I will not go back inspite of the fact that it's a beautiful venue and both the food and the service were great.

Love this place - it's our go to place when I take my senior Mom out - great service, great food (they were extremely accommodating with my mother) and wonderful ambience. We'll be back

I had a wonderful dining experience at The Snug Pub during my visit to Victoria. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, cozy enough for a casual lunch yet classy enough for a special occasion, all with those beautiful ocean views that this pub is known for.

What truly made our visit stand out was our server, Neda. She was professional, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout our meal. Neda took the time to explain menu highlights and make recommendations, and she checked in regularly without ever feeling intrusive. Her service struck the perfect balance between efficient and personable, leaving us feeling genuinely looked after throughout our visit.

The food was good pub fare with generous portions and good flavour, fitting well with the overall vibe of the place, relaxed but polished. While The Snug’s menu isn’t huge, the classic items we tried were well executed and paired nicely with the views and ambience.

Overall, if you’re looking for a place in Victoria with great food, scenic views, and service that really elevates the experience, ask to be seated in Neda’s section, she definitely helped make our meal memorable. I’d happily return! 🍻🌊

I was pleased to be able to make a reservation for dinner on New Years' Day. It wasn't busy even though Open Table limited my hour available. May have been because there was only one server. Great food choices, best crème brûlée dessert ever!

I had such high hopes for this pub after my spa visit.
I was originally seated at a small corner table and felt claustrophobic so requested to relocate, which was easily done. The servers were all very friendly and attentive. Service for a single diner, I found a little slow at first, but picked up after I placed my order. Service 5 stars.
Atmosphere-holiday music by UK artists warm, cheery, love the stained glass piece. Atmosphere 5 stars.
Here's where it gets real. The food.
Ordered the snowglobe holiday drink special, crab cake appetizer, cedar roast salmon and sticky coffee pudding.
Drink was beautiful in presentation, only suggestion is not freezing the rosemary into the frozen cranberry, it kept poking me in my eye. Recommdation to create a rosemary simple syrup and garnish with a leaft of mint.
Crab cake was stellar! Absolutely fabulous 👌🏾
Sadly the salmon is where it got off track. Id requested a sub of truffle fries instead of the potatoes. They misunderstood and sprinkled truffle oil over the entire dish and still served w potatoes vs fries. The server acknowledged this and immediately brought an order of truffle fries. The salmon tasted like the old school candied salmon you'd get in those Hickory Farms baskets, but warmed up. Something about it, I didn't like the taste, texture or??? Maybe it was sprinkled with truffle oil and didn't mix well, Im not sure....
I took the sticky toffee pudding to go. It was brought out early, before I had finished my meal, but I was told not to rush it wouldn't melt etc. When I got home whatever they topped it with, whipping cream or Ice cream had melted along with the caramel sauce and the cake itself was a wet, soggy mess. Suggestion to package dessert sides in operate small containers.
For a single diner I spent over $100 and sadly can say Ive cooked better salmon at home. Note on the final bill was charged $4.00 to sub truffle fries and that wasn't mentioned when I ordered.
This meal has cemented my decision to stop eating out and to start cooking for myself again. As a former red seal chef I'm sad to see food quality and quantity (portion sizes) go downhill, but I empathize for manager's, staff, suppliers and all involved in the chain.

The recently expanded menu has a satisfying variety of choices, including the vegeterian and very satisying cauliflower steak offering, which even non vegetarian members of my family sometimes choose. Everything is prepared to a high quality standard and it can be hard to choose.

We enjoyed the ‘date night' package that included 3 delicious, fresh ingredient courses, paired with a bottle of BC (or French) wine. This and a table with an ocean view? What's not to love? <3
