Toishan Kitchen - Chinese Restaurant - 台山小厨

It was a nice surprise to walk in to clean and bright Chinese restaurant. It looks like it was newly renovated. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was hit and miss. The breaded chicken was very dry and the ginger beef was so crispy that you couldn't chew it. They offered to bring us boxes and a bag for the leftovers which was nice but I discovered afterwards that they charge 25c each. I asked about it and rather than apologize and explain their policy, they chose to argue and blame me saying that this is common practice and we could wash out our (single use) boxes and bring them back next time. This left me with a bad taste and there won't be a next time

There are many Chinese restaurants in town, which I have been to, but this place is honestly in my top two the food here is amazing and the quality is top notch. The staff here are also super friendly and always willing to provide a great service to their guests the owner she is also very nice and welcomes her guess with open arms. If you like Chinese food like I do let this place be one for you to check out you would not be disappointed.

Ordered delivery from here for the first time. It showed up quickly and temperature wise it so delicious and hot! I could feel my fried rice hit my belly LOL! I ordered two combos and an appetizer of boneless ribs and egg rolls. My husband ate so much and loved how hot the food was. They also accommodated switching chow mien for fried rice in his combo.
I wasn’t too crazy about the batter for prawns - it’s the sweet batter, but they were cooked nicely. The boneless pork had that taste of old oil to me.
I will order from here again, the fried rice and chow mien piping hot really hit the spot.

Absolutely the best ginger beef I have ever had

We are vegetarian and do not always find a full vegetarian menu in Canadian Chinese restaurants. I am happy to report that Toishan Kitchen, almost opposite Tillicum Mall has a great vegetarian menu and the dishes that we had were excellent in flavour, cooking and quantity!! We will be 'rediscovering' the dishes tomorrow, which makes them very well priced! The staff did turn down the Virgin Radio when asked.

Edit; Tastes are simple. If I am your cook then I would add some chili beans sauce(Toban Dian?) to ginger fried beef. Make it more spicy and salty for many dishes. It's a bit of a blend but worth ordering again.

Order through Uber Eats. Portions Great, Prices also Great. I will explore more.

This is the best Chinese restaurant left in Victoria. Inside was bright, welcoming and well decorated. The food was amazing, the service was excellent and is one of the only restaurants that still changes your side plates mid-meals. I haven’t seen that done in restaurants for a long time.

We go here every time we are in town. We get the dinner for 4 and the food is delicious, not super greasy and the portions are generous.

Get the Ginger Fried Beef, best in Town! Very good Chinese Food ❤️

Ordered the dinner for 2 combo with beef chop suey and I bit down on a STAPLE that was in the chop suey!!

This is my favourite Chinese restaurant in Victoria. I find the staff friendly and the food very delicious. I am currently obsessed with the fish and pickled veggie broth soup under Signature Dishes. I am so glad this restaurant exists!

I had an amazing experience with this Chinese restaurant! I placed a large takeout order for 12 people, and they had everything freshly prepared and ready in just 20 minutes—super impressive. Not only was the service incredibly fast, but the staff also went above and beyond by helping me carry all the food to my car, which I really appreciated. Best of all, the food was absolutely delicious—every single dish was a hit with my entire office team. We’ll definitely be ordering from here again. Highly recommend!
