Going to miss this iconic place in Victoria. ?
Its a bit anti-climactic to add a review soon after the announcement that VIB is closing this location, but I would like to give a shout out to the beer they "used" to make. About15 years or so ago, a good pint of Herman's (now called Dominion Dark) was one of my regular go to beers.
Time passed, the VIB sold to new owners, got rebranded, got branded back and through all of that recipes were slightly changed, and sadly not for the better.
Recent trips to test out the current offerings has not been stellar, just ok, so no pictures to add to this review of us enjoying the brew.. Sorry to see them go as they are a landmark in terms of the local craft brewing history of our town.
I recently visited Vancouver Island Brewing with my parents after hearing about it on television while staying at a nearby hotel. Since my parents love beer, we decided to check it out. Being our first time, we weren't familiar with their beers, so I asked the cashier for recommendations. She kindly suggested a couple of canned beers, which we decided to try.
However, we weren't aware that the canned beers were for takeout only, so we sat upstairs to enjoy them. Unfortunately, the cashier later came upstairs and asked us to leave, explaining that the canned beers couldn't be consumed on-site and that she could get in trouble with her managers.
While I understand the policy, I wish it had been communicated earlier. Her attitude during this interaction wasn't very friendly, and it felt like there could have been a more considerate way to explain the situation. I would say It was an honest mistake on our part, but the way it was handled left us feeling a bit uncomfortable, slightly damaged our experience.
That said, the beers themselves were good, and I can see why the brewery is popular. Just a heads up for anyone visiting—be sure to ask about the rules if you're unsure to avoid any misunderstandings.
Sad to do this. Love their beer but forget ordering the food.
Stopped yesterday...beer and quesidea $28...outrageous
Wow wow wow where to start? The vibe at Vancouver Island Brewing was unlike any other, and the smiling faces we were greeted with by James and Emily couldn't be beat. The tasty selection of beers and nice little snacks served were top-notch. Dare I say the best brewery I have had in the Vancouver area? I can't wait to wear my brand new shirt back home in Southern California!
Awesome style and branding of this brewery, the merch is great and love the T-shirt I got! A nicely decorated and comfortable space with a good range of beers and snacks to choose from. We were the only customers on a hot day mid May so the service felt a bit dim - might be chirpier on a busier day. There’s definitely potential for this to be a top quality brewery but what doesn’t quite set it apart from the other breweries on the island is there isn’t much information about the tasting notes of the different beers and the flavours aren’t as bold so the selection from the flights we had all seemed to blend into one another
Great selection of beer and ciders for my friends birthday event. Was able to rent the upstairs balcony for a personal space. Lovely west coast vibe from the space.
I was dissatisfied with the customer service from the staff.
Located in the heart of Downtown Victoria, this brewery stands out as a top destination for beer enthusiasts. The beer selection is outstanding, offering a diverse range of flavors that cater to all palates. From hoppy IPAs, crisp pilsners to smooth stouts, there's something for everyone.
The seating is exceptionally comfortable, with ample options both indoors and on the outside covered patio. The patio is particularly inviting, providing both shade and sun, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a pint regardless of the weather.
Inside, the brewery's walls are adorned with cool, captivating art, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Additionally, the rich history of the brewery is proudly displayed, adding a sense of tradition and authenticity to the experience.
Service is top-notch, with friendly and knowledgeable staff enhancing the overall visit. The true Canadian 20oz pint for $8.50 is a fantastic deal, making it even easier to enjoy multiple selections from their extensive menu.
Overall, Vancouver Island Brewing offers a remarkable experience with great beers, excellent service, and a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing environment. It's a must-visit for anyone on the island.
Great taproom. They're finally getting decent snacks!!!
Try the Dominion dark lager on tap if you like dark beers. Very good.
Great local brews!

West coast brewery tour continues……heading down the street from our last place took us to VIB….good assortment of lager’s of which the Dominion Dark was tasty ?.
Until next time VIB….:::
Sure it's a great place drive by it every day looks clean and welcoming
I visited VIB on new year's eve for the first time. The location was easy to find with ample parking. The taproom was spacious and comfortable. More importantly, the beers are excellent. Cool merch selection. Definitely a must do brewery.
Great place for drinks and meeting friends. Will be back.
Like your Island Lager ? a bunch. The can wrap is wonky, distorted and makes the whole feeling a bit less than desirable in my honest humble opinion, I understand that margins are tight and the big boys run the show, but if the tactile feel is quality then the total experience will be quality. The shrink-wrap is detrimental to your beer. It’s still better than the wraps that insulate your hand and make it “feel” like you’re holding a warm beer. Those are very strange. Like just get a beer coozy, then. Right?Don’t judge a beer by its cover, it’s a good lager ? in dollar store clothes.
