Our Appetizers and 2 main dishes were very good and the service from the waitress excellent. However, my lamb shank was not good - there was a congealed mass of pasta and the shank was somewhat dry. I did mention my concern to the male waiter who asked us how the dinners were and he asked if I wanted an alternative but by then my friends had almost finished so there was little point in waiting for another option. I would have expected some offer to reduce the bill but nothing further was said so we paid the full bill and left. It seemed odd to me that there was little effort to address the issue.
Very fancy for a date night.

We are longtime diners and fans of Vis-a-Vis and the quality and service is wonderful. Great food, incredibly attentive and accommodating service, and very reasonable prices for the extremely high quality preparations. The duck is the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!!
My friend and I had a wonderful evening at Vis a Vis. There were a few problems with getting our order to us which the manager and the waiter handled expertly and to our satisfaction. Service and attention to detail at this establishment are fantastic. I've been here a few times before, and I will definitely come again.
Cozy atmosphere with great charcuterie and tasty appies. We tried a few of their new cocktails and they were fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!
Outstanding ambience, service and cuisine. I enjoyed a sumptuous Frenchie burger and my friend raved about the beef Bourguignon. Overall, a reasonably priced, yet upscale dining experience, befitting of upscale Oak Bay neighbourhood.
It was my friend's birthday and we recieved terrible dry customer service. The Caesar salad was awful, and even perhaps dusted with Kraft parmesan. For 27$ the salmon burger from Penny Farthing looked like MacDonalds. Never again Vis a Vis. I never should have paid or tipped. It cost over 100$.

I've been there many times, It's been our go to for birthday celebrations. We have always had a pleasant dinning experience, that's why we continued to return. However, we found the food over salted and not great compared to past experiences. The service was poor, Our waitress never came and asked us how our meal was and I had to try and get her attention to order wine to have with my dinner which was almost finished by the time I got her attention. She seemed to busy chatting with the girl behind the bar and not interested in service at all. It will be difficult about being enthusiastic to return.
Always a positive experience. The beef tartare is typically outstanding, it was a bit dry this time. The indoor atmosphere is cozy.
Consistently great service by knowledgeable staff, quality of food is excellent and the environment is cozy, comfortable very appealing.
Restaurantji Recommends
We are so very fortunate to have such an awesome restaurant in our neighborhood - never disappointed😁
The salmon was disappointing- served on a mash which was bland. The lemon caper sauce was not very tasteful
We found this small, quaint restaurant quite by chance. We enjoyed the warm cozy ambiance, the food was excellent and the service was stellar. Highly recommend the Vis-a-Vis
Nice staff and location. We ordered the seafood for 2. Im a seafood guy and Id rather have a burger or tacos. It came on a single tray with a bed of ice. This might be good for the oysters and shrimp but definitely not good for the shredded crab that falls into the ice getting soggy and you have to fish it out waisting crab. The crab had no flavor either, the shrimp was overcooked, and oysters tasted bland and gritty. Definitely do not recommend. The drinks were good though.
The food we ordered was atrocious... We had "ratatouille" which was virtually rawish tomatoes with few eggplants smothered in katchupy sauce. To be clear we know how is this dish suppose to taste and how it is suppose to be cooked, but what was served was beyond awful and nothing at all related to ratatouille!! All the other lunch offers were basically burgers This place is also quite overpriced, , so all in all do yourself a favor and skip it.
