Ukatsu & VicCup (Japanese Cutlet/Korean Rice Bowl)

I was in Victoria for work and was looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant that was open a bit later - and glad I stumbled upon UKatsu!

The food was amazing and made to order!! The service was so amazing, I told them that I loved the soup and they gave me an extra bowl since I was raving about it. I also thought the price was very reasonable.

Great spot, would highly recommend!!

highly recommend coming here to get the katsu combo. i went at a less busy time and the waitress was so nice and charming!! she was busy packaging online orders but still checked up on me whenever i needed something (another drink, another napkin, etc). the food is so filling, i think the miso soup was complimentary because i didn't order it but it was so delicious! it didnt taste like the powdered stuff it was the real deal. 6/5 i would eat here again!

I've been on the hunt for a good katsu place in Victoria for what feels like forever, and I finally found it at Ukatsu. The portion size was so generous that I initially thought it could easily feed two people, but the food was so delicious that I ended up finishing my entire order without sharing a bite. The interior is okay—nothing too fancy—but what really matters is that I walked out feeling completely satisfied and full. Ukatsu did not disappoint!

At first, I was very excited to try one of their cutlet sets. However, when I went to order, the waitress said to me “this is quite a big portion, are you sure you will be able to finish it? I can give you a to-go box.” As a higher weight person I felt uncomfortable with the comment, but dismissed it as first. The meal itself was pretty good, but the lady kept coming back and interjecting comments like: Wow! You really did finished it! Safe to say that it dampened what could have been a nice and quiet meal and I unfortunately will not be coming back to this location.

Ukatsu is a 11/10 in my books, they went absolutely above and beyond for our order! I ordered a pork katsu curry and my boyfriend ordered the chicken katsu don, we ordered through Uber and had a really difficult time with the app service due to drivers cancelling.

The restaurant called me and were the kindest people! They remade our order without us asking and it arrived hot, I was pleasantly surprised!! They added a couple things to our order (even though they absolutely didn’t need to!) The service here is amazing and we will be going back again! They just earned themselves regular customers :))

Food:
Pork Katsu Curry was so tender and crispy, the curry was just right and tasted very authentic (for Japanese curry) the rice was perfectly cooked and not mushy at all (another win for Ukatsu!)

Chicken katsu don was delicious and I had to keep asking for more bites! The egg in the rice was so fluffy :3

All in all, if you’re looking for a good meal at the end of the day I would HIGHLY suggest coming here. The food is so comforting, it makes you feel like your mom just cooked a delicious meal for you. The workers are so kind and generous, this is top notch service.
