Best xi an food I have had in Canada. Flavours of the food were amazing and not overly heavy or oily. the drinks were also fresh and tasty, better quality than many bubble tea places. Going into my Vancouver favorite places for sure.

We ordered the appetizer platter, sweet and sour pork ribs, pickled radish duck soup, and noodles — all were delicious. The service was great。But, unfortunately we found a piece of hair in the soup. Hope they will improve in the future.

I've dined here twice in a month now and overall, I've really enjoyed it. Food is excellent! I really enjoyed both the Stewed Beef Noodle and the Jia-zhang Noodle along with the Pan-Fried Dumplings.

The only reason my review isn't 5 stars is because of the music. Recently, I went and was sat at a table under the speakers. The music was quite loud, so it made for a less comfortable dining experience.

If you're going with a party of 4 or more, I'd suggest you call to make reservations. It's a small restaurant and fills up quickly.

Amazing food. Our favorites were the stewed pork burger, the pork ribs, the fried dumplings and the pork noodles. Can't wait to come back.

The food always delicious, and the waiter are friendly and attentive. I often bring my kids here for a meal after school, and they especially love the hot pot and beef brisket noodles. When we’re not sure what to eat, this is our go to place.

Quite authentic dishes. Pork & cabbage Dumpling & beef noodle were very good. Pork ribs IS nice but I think a little too bony. 肉夹馍could be better.

Food was a bit bland, but did the job. The order was over the phone and hard to place due to noise.

This is THE HIDDEN GEM OF THE NORTH SHORE. I can’t get enough. We lived in China for years and I’ve been searching for REAL Chinese food ever since… this is the real deal folks, prepare to be amazed.

Tired of greasy “Canadian Chinese” takeout with the same old deep-fried everything? Lao Cai at Ambleside Beach is a total game changer. This place serves up Xian-style Chinese food, bold, fresh, and completely different from the usual fare. They don’t even have a fryer.

Instead, it’s all about fresh-pulled noodles, handmade dumplings with an addictive dipping sauce, soul-warming soups, and crisp, flavour-packed salads. Everything tastes clean, vibrant, and made with care.

Our favourites? Stewed pork burgers, shredded potato salad, cucumber salad, lotus salad (seasonal), LiangPi noodles with sesame sauce, veggie dumplings, lamb & carrot dumplings, shrimp chive & pork dumplings, onion & beef dumplings, pork & cabbage dumplings… the beef noodle soup is soooo good. So is the lamb pao-mo, classic. They have hot-pot if you are adventurous. Everything is amazing.

Bonus: they do bubble tea too, so you can grab one to go and stroll on the beach in 30 seconds. And yes, there’s actual parking in the lot off Clyde Ave. Lao Cai is the real deal.

Their handmade noodle was very impressive. It was chewy but perfectly cooked so tender at the same time. The reason for one less star was because of the soup of the beef noodle. It’s not oily at all which was nice, but it’s too salty for us and the taste of soy sauce was too strong.
The dumplings were rich of stuffing and flavor. Same issue with the noodle soup, the stuffing was a bit too salty. However, the sourness in the dipping sauce balanced the saltiness a little.
Overall, it’s still an amazing experience having dinner here. We will definitely come back to check out other dishes next time.
