Edit: the doughnuts I've ordered twice by now are still yummy, BUT this time I was disappointed with the cake I ordered for my daughter's birthday. It was a Strawberry Delight Cake
Cake Flavour: Chocolate. The cake turned out way too sweet. I consider Costco's cakes to be too sweet, and we are a sweet-loving family, BUT this cake was like nothing we had tried before. All parts of it were so sweet that we couldn't finish a piece of it! Almost uneatable.
I contacted the business expressing my dissatisfaction, and they came back saying they are sorry and giving me some specifications of the used ingredients. However, no compensation (in a form of a further discount, perhaps?) was offered at all, and they didn't sound like they cared much about my opinion or dissatisfaction with their product overall.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TYPE OF CAKE OR ANY OTHER CAKE HAVING THE SAME TOPPING/FLAVOR.
I've ordered doughnuts for my son's birthday from Hillcrest Bakery for the very first time!
The doughnuts were yummy and presented nicely.
The best part is that the doughnut were very on time and the driver was very professional and flexible! He He helped me out, for which I'm very grateful! I was even given some free doughnuts as a compliment from Hillcrest Bakery! It feels good to support a local business, but it feels even better when the business not only does the job right but goes beyond!
I bought a black forest cake for my kids birthday and vegan brownies and they all were stale. Totally disappointed as I told a day in advance that I need a fresh cake.
Some parts of the cake tasted stale. Really unfortunate no one is testing ingredients or making sure they stay fresh.
We ordered two cakes and picked them up on two separate days. Both cakes had incorrect spelling of the names given. The first cake was supposed to say grandpa and they spelled it “granpa”. Second cake the name was Alexa and it said “Alena”.
This place is great. Very good quality. I recommend for birthday cakes.
Avoid , they are not fresh .
I placed a last-minute order for my sister’s birthday cake at Hillcrest Bakery, and I couldn’t be more impressed! Akash and Seerat were absolutely amazing — they were so sweet and accommodating. Despite the short notice, they created exactly the cake I sent them the picture. It not only looked perfect but tasted incredible too. Highly recommend them for their professionalism, creativity, and warm customer service!
Rude staff. Unhelpful and rushed me through my order. First time there and will be the last... 😞
Walk-in the young lady van on the counter was on her phone didn't bother saying hi back to me waited until she finished her phone call didn't even bother to end her phone call. Ordered two dozen cross buns tasted like they were worse than day old they were so dry they were terrible. Croissants more like a bun not flaky at all. Between the quality of the food and the quality service would not recommend. This used to be an unbelievable great place to go friendly service fresh baking. I know they're under new owners the new owners seem to have bought a business for a business not because they're bakers and certainly doesn't seem like they enjoy what they do. Again do not recommend.
March/2025 - I'm a 4th year SFU mature student. I had a special gender & sexuality project that required an angel food cake with specific colours and no centre fill. I first went to Thrifty's but it seems that angel food cake is not sold by Thrifty's, so the conversation I had in mind was a non-starter. I then went to Save-On and was advised very clearly by the bakery rep that their angel food cake was only white icing, dark chocolate writing, and had a cherry fill. Again, a non-starter. Then, I recalled Hillcrest Bakery - and I've been going in here for years but not since they moved to their fabulous new location. Long story short, they were delighted to provide me with the cake I needed - special colours and writing. Thank you, Kyrin!
Best community place!

A very strange place... First and last time I'll go there. Was sort of looked at weird the whole time (nothing on my face I swear haha) and was given it to go, but was to eat it here. No napkins or glass of water. I am eating (this is lunch time) and I am the only customer there and one of the Punjabi staff members comes near me and films me with his phone... Normally I would ask and make a fuss, but I had a cold, it was a cold winter day. I ate my lunch for 10 mins and left. Not sure why he filmed me nor why he said nothing about it to me. So just a weird group working in there, weird vibes. Bad first impression. Won't be back.

Hillcrest Bakery used to be the gem of White Rock and had such good pastries and breads. However, I was so disappointed when I came in today. Firstly, the bakery had a stale sour smell that was not appealing. I settled on a sandwich, soup and a donut. The girl making my sandwich was friendly and nice but she kept touch her face and wiped her nose twice with the back of her wrist while preparing my sandwich. The sandwich was okay (the bread was delicious) but for a vegetable sandwich that cost $8.50 I would expect more than just cheese, mayo, mustard and a few vegetables (lettuce, cucumber and pickles (I declined the offered banana peppers and onions)). Maybe offer tomatoes? Avocado? Sprouts? Cream cheese?
I also got the cheddar broccoli soup and ended up throwing it out as the thin soups “cheese” wasn’t melted and had a weird texture and overall flavour. The donut was dry and obviously previous frozen and brought in.
I was very pleased to see the wall of pre-bought meals and items that could be taken. I feel this could be better set up though. It’s behind the counter so you can’t read what’s available and also there is a sign to “give the prepaid ticket to the server” - how can you if it’s behind the counter? If I also may suggest adding a “box lunch” option folks can pre-purchase that contains a choice of sandwich, a hot or cold drink, a bag of chips and a dessert bar or cookie?

It's a fabulous neighborhood bakery. Friendly and helpful staff but they can get overwhelmed when it gets busy.
I love their chocolate cake. Very close to homemade. Some other sweets remind me of my German grandmother. Also love their bacon butter biscuits.

Not at all what I expected. Ordered sausage rolls, the taste was terrible. Too bad..I heard great things about this bakery. Unfortunately, I can't say the same.
