Went to Moby's today for lunch and I guess the new owners are trying to save money. The fish was cut thin and was really dry, overcooked maybe and the batter seemed different. We've been going for 35+ years and this was the first bad experience. Monica and Ralph( the old, original owners) would be very disappointed...especially Ralph. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day?
It's always fun to eat at this iconic place. The food is always fresh and tasty. The service is always friendly.
Had the burger and it was stellar! Everyone else I. The scout group had the fish and chips and seemed to love what they had.
Best fish and chips I've ever had.
Love this place. Never dissapoints. Update took 2 star away. Today I got hard over cooked fish and soggy undercooked fries. Greatly dissapointed
Pretty and beautiful lady
Fish and chips is so good. Mouth watering.
Opted for take out because the restaurant is just in front of the beach.

Whenever my family visit White Rock beach, we always stop at Moby Dicks for either dine in or take out fish and chips. It has also become a tradition with friends and family from out of town. The fish and chips are solid and the extra piece with each order adds value.
The service either with dine in or take out is always adequate, not overly friendly but also not rude or difficult in any way. That changed tonight when the staff was disorganized and unprofessional.
Tonight, after the Bright Walk Tree lighting festival we planned to stop by Moby Dicks on the way back home to grab dinner. When we got to the restaurant my father-in-law and I checked in with the restaurant to see about the wait time for a table for four. We were told that a table was just paying and would be available shortly. I informed our server that I would go grab the rest of our party and my FIL would wait in the restaurant until the table was ready.
I went back to the car and gathered my wife, our 4yr old and 4-month-old son. When I returned to the restaurant 5 minutes later, I found my FIL, a senior, standing outside in the cold. I asked him why he was not at a table, and he shared that a different server had asked him to wait outside in the cold windy weather and took his name and number down and would call him when a table became available.
We waited with him outside for another 10 minutes during which time another party of three entered the restaurant and that party was seated immediately at a four top at which we could have sat.
When I went back in to inquire as to why we had been left to wait the server that I had previously spoken with told me there was that had been ready, but they were waiting for us and that they do not come outside to check.
Clearly the servers do not talk to each other as why one would send my FIL to stand in the cold when the other said a table was just being cleaned and he could have sat down and warmed up.
The biggest issue I had was that when they realized this had happened there was no apology, no concern, no care whatsoever. Had they shown any semblance of concern for their error I would have chalked it up to them having an off night and moved on. Without any form of apology it shows that they do not care and do not understand the industry they work in.
Unless an apology is offered, we will not be going back and will explore the many other fish and chip restaurants along the drive. Will report back with a positive review and recommendation once we have had the opportunity to try another fish and chip restaurant.
If you are looking for fish and chips at White Rock beach I’d recommend you do the same as although Moby Dicks makes some solid fish and chips, their service is strongly lacking and it makes sense to give your money to another restaurant that will value your business.
Kid-friendliness: Not very kid friendly. Asking a senior along with a 4 year old and 4 month old to wait outside on a cold, windy, winter night shows an absolute lack of hospitality.

I ate it for the atmosphere. The fried fish was not seasoned and had a greasy taste, but the French fries and shrimp burger were delicious.

We have come here for many years, todays fish was terrible. The batter was not fully cooked and raw and runny on the inside. Very disappointing. The quality has certainly gone down. Not busy either so that was not an excuse for such bad quality.
