Redberry Brings Jersey Mike's Subs to Canada
The famous sandwich shop from the Jersey Shore is crossing the border for the first time, with plans to open 300 locations across Canada over the next 10 years. Redberry Restaurants is leading the charge. They've opened the first out of these new Jersey Mike's in Markham, part of the Greater Toronto Area, on August 28. The Markham location marks the third Jersey Mike's in Canada with six more planned for Ontario in 2024.
Why U.S. Fast Food Chains Rush to Canada?
Canada is quickly becoming a hot spot for American fast food chains looking to expand. Shake Shack just opened shop in Toronto, with plans for 34 more spots by 2035. They're not alone in this northern adventure - sandwich shops Jimmy John's and Jersey Mike's are also eyeing the Canadian market. Other chains joining the expansion include Crumbl Cookies, Insomnia Cookies, Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, and the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão.
