Place was a staple in our family Birthday tradition. But this last go around the place had changed. It was noticeably more expensive and the service and quality of the food had noticeably dropped off. Automatic gratuity added and then you are easily fooled at check out time because there is another line for gratuity. It has gotten out of hand and I am extremely sad to report we will no longer be patronizing this establishment any longer. I am sure they are ben out of shape over it….. But hey if enough of you do the same they will improve. I just cant reward mediocre performance….

It has been almost nine years that my sister and I have dined at Shirasoni. I gave them a three star rating years ago. The food is okay. I had better elsewhere. It is still a three star rating. Nothing has changed except the price. It used to be $10.95 for a grilled salmon bento box lunch. It is now $18.95 for that lunch.
Okay, in my book, it is a hit or miss.

Food was ok. Nothing special. A lot of the sushi rolls have cream cheese, which i don't like. Service was pretty slow for only a few tables being busy (went for lunch). Then they hit you with an automatic 20% Service charge for dinning in, which i missed as you walk into the restaurant.

The food is always fantastic! Tge staff are very friendly. The cooks are great!! I don't like that I was charged an 18% gratuity when there were just 4 of us, 2 adults 2 children.
I've dined at Beniha's in San Francisco and Concord and Hana Japan in Berkeley, CA. The chef at Shirasoni in Alameda cooked our food to perfection. His showman skills were lacking but food preparation was on point. My family of six celebrating pre-father's day were extremely satisfied.

The restaurant smelled like it had not been cleaned in a long time. The food was overpriced (average quality) and the fact that you did a 20% tax on top of the food + tax, was misleading. That was actually a 20%+ charge. I would never recommend this restaurant and it was a disappointing way to spend Father's Day. My son got food tossed in his face and food was all over the ground - really unclean.

Our first time dining, Everything good but the veggie too watery, when the chef put them on our plate, our rice were swimming on sauce and its waaay to watery like a soup. But we still planning to come back.
