the summary: very Berkeley bakery, not my favorite style of almond croissants but good if you're into the rustic meets refined baking style

The verdict: it's good. Worth a line? No. Top of mind must try or go again? Not for me. I would give it 3 stars if rating for my preference but giving 4 stars taking into account if others would like it.

The details: this place always has a line and has been heard to have better almond croissants than fournee (also not my favorite almond croissant but considered one of the best for Berkeley) so was interested to try. Finally had a chance to try and wasn't a little let down (just like fournee).

The style is rustic with a lot of glaze and flattened, which is a first for me. They were pretty skimpy on the frangipane on the inside which is a big nono for me. Just tasted like a flattened croissant with glaze and powdered sugar. Not much almond. The best part was the tips, which with the glaze was actually a fun chewy/crunchy bite. Would guess their kouign-amannes would be good based on that but didn't get.

Three stars based upon rumors of great products. Personally every time I have gone they are sold out so I have NEVER tasted anything….

Arrived one Sunday morning after a transatlantic flight as I was passing by chance, and was not dissapointed - patisserie here was outstanding, staff friendly and although not serving coffee recommended a nearby cafe which was excellent as well. Only advice - get there early, they were nearly sold out by 10.30am !

Pastries are great but the hours are unacceptable. At 10am they are already sold out. If they don't want to sell, I won't be buying.

Probably the best croissants in the East Bay. Sells out quickly.

Thank you Morice, seasoned cyclist from the streets of San Francisco for sharing this exceptional place with us! A true French flavor in the United States, French heritage is honored! Special mention for the butter croissant which couldn't be more delicious than that.
Go there with your eyes closed!!!

You can never go wrong anything that you buy from here. Their almond bostock and cannelle have the perfect texture and level of decadence. The head baker/owner is super sweet and opened the bakery a little earlier than the stated opening time. It seems that they are up super early (around 3 am or so?) making these lovely baked goods, so I truly appreciate how friendly the service is as well :)

My only complaint , they close too early.
Probably good for my waist.
Butter 🥐 is best around North Berkeley and Albany. Try the bostock, you will be happy you did.

Edit:
Quick response from the owners! Not everybody knows what bakers hours are, and I am glad they shared the impressive numbers they are able to do in such a tiny location. If I didn't start work at 6am, I would be there at 730 or 8 regularly.

I fell in love with the plain croissants; they were so light and crispy, absolutely perfect! I highly recommend pairing them with Alexandra’s 85% butter made from A2 milk for the ultimate experience. My husband tried the pain au chocolat and loved how flaky the pastry was, with a smooth chocolate filling that was just the right amount not too much or too little. What I appreciate most about this bakery is their dedication to quality, which truly makes them stand out. Waking up early on a Sunday and waiting in line was totally worth it. Thank you to the whole team! keep up the great work, guys!🥰❤️

I was very sad to find out today that Rotha has stopped making Kouign Ammans. Imo they had the best KAs in the Bay Area. Do bring them back team Rotha.

Sold out really fast. We visited here at 9:30 Friday, but only got three types of pastries. Be there earlier as possible!
