Super homey and delicious breakfast foods. The pancakes were so good and the bowl too. I highly reccomend this place.

My first visit was two days ago --- my friend said THIS place is great (he lives nearby) and he was right. Super-tasty breakfast --- oh, those potatoes, in a really nice atmosphere, with very friendly people on staff. Scones, too - did I mention the scones? I'm already planning to return. Soon.

The Royal's been around for ages. Maybe the prices have gone up, but it still serves the old standbys: buttermilk and buckwheat pancakes (plus specials), good eggs the way you want (and they are always cooked correctly, at least in my experience), omelettes with feta, olives, avocado, ham, cheese, etc., etc., good thick bacon done well, incredible scones, scrumptious potatoes, and far more. It's almost always open, and it has multiple seating styles: on a mezzanine, in booths with leather seats, at cafe tables, at the counter. The decor is sort of like Mel's: '60s lunch boxes and such, but not as glitzy and therefore easier on the eyes. They never bother you here, so people hang out, but there is a lot of seating and most diners take less than an hour for an excellent start to the day. The Royal even has a parking lot right off San Pablo Ave. and at breakfast there is parking on the avenue as well. Highly recommended.

The omelette I had yesterday didn't please me as much as usual -- the egg part was too thick. Great service, as aways!

I bother and his wife were visiting so we wanted to give them a really old-fashioned experience. This is a diner with a lot of character and their pancakes and fried chicken with waffles cannot be bettered. Not for everyday- too high calorie - but when you want that special bit of indulgence this cannot be beaten.

Love their banana coconut pancakes and spicy benedict!

Best brunch in East Bay. The food are delicious and portions are huge. The fresh orange juice is one of my favorite drink.
