Food is good. But I don’t know why services are so slow. It’s not very busy but I waited over 10 minutes for my iced tea after reminding waitress. Then another 10 minutes to wait for CC to be processed.

I visited Garden Café in Alhambra on a holiday weekend. I completely understand it was a busy day, but the experience was extremely disappointing.

I arrived after my friend had already been seated. It took nearly 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and our drinks took another 20 minutes to arrive after repeated reminders. By the time my entrée came out, my friend had already finished eating. I requested a take-out box—which never arrived, even after we were done with the meal.

Despite the poor service, we still left a tip, just under 10%. Shockingly, the manager, who had not appeared throughout the meal, came out just to look at our signed bill and said, in front of other guests:
👉 “You guys are so cheap.”
👉 “We expect at least 10%.”

As someone who has worked in the service industry, I was truly appalled. If service is lacking due to how busy things are, that’s understandable. But using that as an excuse to shame customers over tips is completely unprofessional. Tipping is a reflection of the service received—not a mandatory tax.

Customers are not ATMs, and we certainly don’t come to restaurants to be insulted. This was my first and last visit to this place.

My favorite daily go to HK cafe style chain here in Greater LA area, three locations, this Alhambra branch has a storage parking for free, nice quality as always to all locations, original HK style iced milk tea is original, juicy crunchy spicy chicken wings. Tomato Spaghetti is very nice as always.

Came here for breakfast. It was not crowded. I told the receptionist that 1 person. She kind of ignored me. I tried to establish eye contact with the number of waitresses passing by, and again, they all ignored me. I stayed at the reception and waited 5 minutes because they were kind of busy.

A group of women came and cut in front of me, went to the same receptionist, acknowledged them, and she immediately guided them to a table.

Never come back, good luck with your business

This place is so nostalgic. Been coming here since I was a teen with my family & still come here often as an adult with my own family. Although the quality can be a hit or miss, my grandpa use to love this place. The honey lemon tea is a hit.

This is a traditional family style Chinese restaurant. We've been coming here for years especially during Lunar New Year celebration. Their food is so tasty. High quality ingredients and made fresh to order. Portions are large and shareable. We always end up taking leftovers home. I particularly love their yellow chicken curry and green shrimp curry. I've had their spaghetti too and it's also amazing. We like going after the lunch rush around 2pm or go in the evening after the dinner rush around 9pm because peak times are definitely busy.

I'm a regular customer here and I’ve always enjoy dining here. However, something unpleasant happened today that made me dissatisfied.

I’ve been coming to Garden Cafe for over 10 years. It was a childhood favorite too but somehow along the way, my family stopped going. We were too caught up in the Alice Kitchens and Delicious Corners of the world. But where Garden Cafe truly shines is the people, food quality and pricing. In this economy, they are winning us back with all those factors. Everything is generally good on the menu - big portions and big on flavor. Don’t expect bells and whistles. Get to know the staff if you want better service - really show up as regulars and support them.
