“The best spicy Chinese Food in OC/LA area hands down! They have been Michelin recommended for a reason. Their food has lots of depth of umami flavors with a good amount of spice with a refined touch. Their none spicy broths are especially good too. My faves are their dry pots, toothpick lambs, Qiao Jiao Beef. We also like their spicy ribs and boiled fish in chilli sauce, and Mao cai. Service is great too!”

“I don't even know where to start because everything was amazing. Alcohol not necessary for a good time here! The food. The drinks. The vibes. The owners. The things they support. Their selflessness. Their creativity. The hope and life force that they provide for those who need it. They deserve your support. As a celiac, and someone who cannot handle alcohol very well.. this is it. This is what I'm talking about when I say I want atmosphere. This is what I want to give my money to. I got the black garlic pasta and it was incredible. My partner got chicken adobo and it was also amazing. We played chess and chat the owners up for a long while. 鹵億鮮 Luyixian 2 E Valley Blvd #1E, Alhambra Shanghainese • $

“Lu Yi Xian is located in what looks like a office building. At first there looks like there's very limited parking (the entrance is on the north side on Valley Blvd), but there's actually more parking underground.

The main dining room is a bit small, but they have a secondary adjacent dining room. Not sure how large as I didn't go in there. The vibe is very mom and pop, clean, with some fun simple decorative touches.

The food however is the main standout of this place, especially the Beef Noodle. It's deliciously savory, slightly sweet and not the usual salt bomb that most noodle soups tend to be. The noodles are springy and have great bite, like al dente pasta. The vegetables are fresh, not overcooked. And the beef...oh the beef! It's wonderfully seasoned and braised until its silky and tender. Plus you get a very healthy portion of it. This is the main reason you should come here.

I also recommend the Tofu Skin with Cilantro. It's fragrant, simple, fresh and satisfying. If you order the potstickers, be warned that you get four but they are much much larger than most places. I ended up taking them to go.

All and all this place is well worth the price. It's not a super fancy place, but the food is fantastic.”

They even thought out every detail, making sure utensils and a little baggie with garlic sauce, hot peppers, hot sauce and sumac seasoning was included. Definitely 10 out of 10, thank you! I would have posted a photo, but my food didn’t stand a chance 😋”

Xiang La Hui 621 W Main St, Alhambra Szechuan • $$

“This review is long overdue. I visited Alhambra several months ago and decided to eat at Xiang La Hui after weighing all of my dining options that evening. I'm glad I did because it was a great experience. Even after all of these months I'm still thinking about the food! Everything was hot, nicely plated, and tasted just right. Flavors were nicely balanced and entrees are sizable. I felt like I got my money's worth. The service was nice too. You feel welcomed as a customer and aren't rushed, which I appreciate.

If you live close to this restaurant, or are planning to visit or pass through Alhambra, then I recommend giving Xiang La Hui a try. I'd eat here more often if I could! I'll certainly go back someday.”

“Wanted to check this place out with my boyfriend. It was poppin on a Saturday night, which is a good sign. We got the house eggrolls, the Kobe syle beef pho and the Filet Mignon pho with the original noodle (you have an option for a fresh fatter noodle) Beyond delicious!!! The broth and meat was so flavorful
The service was very fast. I have a sensitive stomach so I probably should have avoided the egg rolls because I dont do well with certain oils and fried food but they were so freaking good. Definitely recommend this spot for amazing pho. The other dishes people were ordering that I was able to see looked really good too.”

Savoy Kitchen 138 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra Chinese • $$

“I’ve been coming to Savoy Kitchen for a long time, and it’s still one of my go-to spots in the area. We ordered a spread of classics during our last visit, and while the food is still generally good, a few things felt a bit different this time around.

The Hainan Chicken Rice is what put them on the map. The chicken itself remains incredibly tender and juicy, and the trio of sauces still hits the spot. However, the chicken-to-rice ratio was definitely off on this visit—there was a mountain of rice but a pretty small portion of chicken. More importantly, the rice lacked that incredibly rich, savory chicken broth flavor that used to make Savoy stand out from every other spot. It tasted a bit more muted than before.

Luckily, the other dishes we tried held up their end of the bargain:

The Bread: Served fresh and nicely seasoned, though it was on the denser side rather than being light and airy. Still good for snacking on or soaking up extra sauce, just heavier than expected.

Chicken Pasta: A comforting, simple dish with plenty of tender chicken strips tossed in a light, savory broth.

BBQ Chicken Pizza: Generously topped with thick slices of chicken, red onions, and plenty of melted cheese.

Savoy is still a classic, and the meal overall was satisfying. I just really hope they bring back that signature richness to the chicken rice and balance out the portions again!”

Chicken Bun Bun 222 W Main St, Alhambra Chicken • $

“Absolutely amazing. After a disappoint go at the Mancoras peruivian cuisine on main, I found this place in walking distance. Gave it a shot and the chicken is amazing. The #1 recommendation is have is the #1 Chicken sandwich (white or dark meat) it's by far the best chicken sandwich I've had. Easily blowing Raising Canes and all other chicken sandwich establishments out of the park. The balance between each ingredient was spot on and I could easily devour multiple of these in one sitting due to how good it is. 100% recommend this place.

Side note, for any people planning to eat here. Order ahead of time (sometimes it can take 30+ minutes) and avoid the wraps, go for the chicken on the bun instead. It's vastly superior because the wraps seem to be poorly constructed. The wraps seem to be overflowing with sauce which makes the wrap soft and weak so its, hard to hold let alone eat, without it breaking apart in your hands”

Bobacraft Cafe 410 W Main St, Alhambra Bubble Tea • $

“Tried Bobacraft Cafe for the first time today — came for the boba, ended up blown away by the food.

Got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken bento and tofu pudding dessert. The popcorn chicken was crispy, seasoned exactly the way it should be — you know the kind if you’ve had it from a night market stall. Not toned down, not over-sauced, just right. The tofu pudding was smooth and comforting in that quiet, classic way that’s hard to explain if you haven’t grown up with it.

Honestly didn’t expect the flavors to feel this close to what I remember from Taiwan. It’s the kind of food that makes you a little nostalgic without trying too hard.

The one thing that stood out to me was the interior visuals — they don’t quite match the personality of the food yet. The flavors have a real identity, a genuine Taiwanese street snack soul, but the posters and branding inside the shop haven’t caught up. I actually put together a few poster redesigns during my meal to share with them — felt like a small way to give back after food that good. Hope they find it useful.”

Kp Town has quickly become one of my favorite spots for true Cantonese home-style comfort food. The husband-and-wife team who run it are warm, welcoming, and clearly put so much heart into every dish. You can taste the care and tradition in everything they make.

Their made-to-order porridge is a standout — silky, flavorful, and exactly the kind of simple, perfect comfort food you hope to find but rarely do. Every bowl feels like it was cooked just for you.

Re:Bakesic Coffee & Bakery 188 S Monterey St Unit 112, Alhambra Coffee Shops • $

“Really enjoyed trying the spring menu at Re:Bakesic—everything felt creative and well thought out.

We tried a mix of their seasonal pastries and drinks. The Matcha Strawberry Mochi Scone was one of my favorites—the matcha flavor was nicely balanced with the strawberry, and the mochi added a fun chewy texture.

The Easter Pistachio Chocolate Mochi Egg Tart was not only super cute but also very rich and satisfying. The combination of pistachio and chocolate worked really well, and the mochi inside gave it an extra layer of texture.

For drinks, the “Childhood Memory” shaken espresso was light and refreshing, with subtle notes of jasmine, apple, and pear—definitely something different from your typical coffee. The “Zen Bloom” was also great, with lightly sweetened jasmine tea topped with a salted matcha cream that balanced everything nicely.

Overall, I love how their menu combines unique flavors without being overly sweet. Great spot if you’re looking for something a little different from your usual dessert and coffee places.”

CHICHA San Chen - Alhambra 30 W Main St, Alhambra Bubble Tea • $

“Heard a lot about their tea so went to try it out. Tried the taro fresh milk, dong ding oolong and lemon tart. They were all good. The taro fresh milk came with actual taro and taro boba and was my mom’s favorite. My dad enjoyed the dong ding oolong as it wasn’t too sweet and had a smokey flavor. I really enjoyed the lemon tart but the “perfect sugar” level was a little too sweet for me, would try a little less sugar next time. Went on a weekday to avoid any crowds. At the time of my visit, it only had one lost to self order from and it was occupied for a bit so I placed an online order from the QR code. The main difference is that at the in-store kiosk they make the drink right away, and for the QR code it is for ordering online so it may be 20-25mins wait.”
