THE FOOD: I'm new to the vegetarian lifestyle, and started reluctantly under doctor's orders. Mazal has been a revelation! Tal and his staff prepare vegetarian dishes that taste amazing because they were always intended to be vegetarian! Fresh fennel salad, hearty beats with cumin, silky humus and baba ganoush. And mushrooms so perfectly grilled that they taste - dare I say - MEATY, like a mushroom should! So yes, the food is supurb. But that's not the reason we come back. Nor is it the reason we decided to celebrate our recent engagement with them. Mazal feels like a home. The decor is warm, the patio is beautiful and spacious, and Hanni, Tal, and the rest of the staff are kind and welcoming. So, I suggest you come for the food, stay for the people, and come back for both.“

“Wow! This is such an amazing and unique concept! I love the frankies selection from the menu. I tried Chicken Tikka Masala Frankie and Crispy Frisch Frankie and I’m satisfied! “Utterly charmed by this place. After eating an incredible, smoky bowl of split pea - which John (the owner) made on the spot on his gas stove behind the register - for $3.75, I bought some grocery staples and a few treats. While shopping, I marveled at the hand-packed "leftovers" stored in the wood-paneled refrigerator, on sale for a modest $1.75/portion instead of being thrown out. A business as personal and homey as Oh Happy Day is a marvel these days. I feel gratitude and respect for John and the space he's fostered. Will be back many times.“

“I asked Vegan AF to cater an event for about 50-60 diverse people and Chanel killed it. Our guests said they would be fully converted to veganism if it meant eating her hand-fried crispy wraps stuffed with a flavorable combination of vegetables and faux meats. This is really important to my family who tease me for being vegetarian.She showed up early so we had time to organize things in the party room to best serve her needs and the flow of the event. The pink containers and branding made sure that everyone who loved her food would be able to find her. There were a lot of designers, so branding was important.Most importantly, Vegan AF complimented the community festival vibe of the night. “Excellent vegan food. I got the vegan pho, which was HUGE. Normally vegan pho comes with more vegetable in it and this one comes with only spinach, so I decided to order a side of steamed broccoli. But when the soup came, I was shocked at how big the portion was. To be honest I was starving and even then I could have not ordered the broccoli and been fine. There was plenty of spinach in the phon and it was packed full of flavor. The waitress was very friendly and the place was clean. “Every time that I try a new Thai restaurant, I ask for a Pad Thai. The rationale is that if that staple of Thai cuisine is not well prepared, there is little else to look for in that place. Interestingly, the menu showed the dish prominently, calling it their signature dish. And, boy, they delivered! The flavor was so well balanced, and the noodles were rightly cooked, and with the right moisture, not the mess of sticky overcooked noodles you get some times. The accompanying Chinese eggplant was well prepared, too. 10/10.The same goes for the "fish" dish my wife had. Finally, the mango with sticky rice was sublime. The service was excellent. “Decent food for the price. We got the chicken bowl, one with rice and hummus the other with lettuce and cucumber yogurt. Both were tasty and kept us full until dinner. The hummus was good and was not too strong with any one flavor. The chicken was seasoned well and moist. The yogurt was not too bitter and the cucumber gives a nice crunch. This is a great place to get a grab and go lunch.“

Flavor explosion, kept me full, and was healthy with shishito peppers, mustard greens, and crispy oyster mushrooms with a cilantro and ginger chutney sauce.I’d come back for that dish, and with Beatrix’s amazing service and care. “I love the food at Pocha and decided to try their catering menu for Easter lunch. Because I have a tendency to order too much food, I stopped by the restaurant to place my order and asked for help. Claire helped me and she was a lovely lady to work with. I told her what I wanted to order, what else I was having at home, and she recommended the sizes I should order. She totally nailed it with the amount of food. We had the build your own carne asada and chicken mole tacos, cilantro and garlic rice, refried beans and plantains. It was the first time for my family to try mole tacos and it was a big hit! Everything was delicious. The food was packaged nicely, ready at time of pick up, and the temperature was perfect.
