You know how nowadays we’re all influenced by Instagram on where to eat? Hai Nam Saigon is definitely one of those IG-famous spots, so we were curious and decided to try it out.

We ordered the bánh cuốn and bánh xèo, two Vietnamese classics. The bánh xèo was actually pretty good: nice crispy skin and a generous portion. But the bánh cuốn didn’t live up to the Instagram hype at all. The skin was thick, not the delicate silky kind you expect, and the filling (for both dishes) was mostly veggies.

The environment also wasn’t the best for enjoying a meal. Overall, not really impressed and we won’t be returning.

Bánh cuốn (rice rolls) was average. Price was reasonable. The worst thing about this restaurant was the restroom. Very shabby! I tried to avoid using it if possible. It was worse than many restrooms in Vietnam now!

I'm literally craving for banh cuon after a month didn't get it. When he served my plate, I thought it was wrong oder but wasn't. I don't care if they gonna raise the price or not, but the portion was horrible, you can tell by the first pic (a month ago) & the second pic (which I just had). It was barely have any meat , literally nothing...and the meat just filled in the middle of the rice paper ??? Also I don't know how much batter they wrap it, so thick and less meat. So disappointed, you should go to somewhere else and paid abt 2buck to get a bowl of Bun bo hue with lots of meat - beef not those sprinkled of pork like that.

They have a sign on the door "no public restroom". Fine. I am a customer. But they don't have a restroom for customers either. I would have gone to the Chinese restaurant across the street because they have a restroom for customers.

Street food of Vietnam. The specialty revolves around flour-based sheets, matched with small helpings of pork cake, Vietnamese version of shrimp tempura, ground pork, etc. Fish sauce and chili go well with these dishes. Nothing fancy in this restaurant. No public restrooms here. You'll have to use them ones in the supermarket next door.

Parking: Large free parking shared by all the stores in this strip mall layout. Anchor store is the 168 Supermarket so sometimes you may have to park further on CVS' side of the parking lot.

The picture worths a thousand words. My wife and I went to this place after shopping at 168 market. We ordered an egg noodle soup and a plate of banh cuon. When the lady(the mom) brought me the banh cuon, I asked her twice if she really gave the right order because it did not look like banh cuon(see the picture). I am not sure if they know how to make banh cuon or they just scam their customer with an old piece of rice paper wrap around grounded meat. Our bowl of egg noodle soup had pink meat and a lot msg. Also the service is bad. We ordered two cups of cold water but they never served. Please stay away from this place. I just give an 1 for the location convenience …

Good portion if you buy early in the day. Don't buy close to closing time, somehow I get a smaller portion. Other than that the food is good.

Vietnamese Authenticity. Definitely a family owned restaurant! I find myself staying away from corporations and going to these hidden gems where I know who is cooking my food.Absolutely try the 11. Banh Xeo and 17. Hu Tieu Bo Vien.
