Terrible. We were kicked out just because we were talking quietly among ourselves. Apparently, if you’re not staring at the chef the whole time, you’re not welcome. No warning, no deposit refund. It felt more like a cult than a dinner. Absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful.

This place is a gem! Came here with my cousin for a lunch omakaze! EVERYTHING was delicious. Recommend the sake flight to pair with the meal. The tamago as a meal finisher was kawaii and a total surprise! Everything super fresh and the atmosphere was perfect. Would recommend for everyone!

I recently went to Kogane to celebrate my birthday with friends, and it was an absolute disaster. After just one course of the Omakase, the chef rudely kicked us out for no reason at all. We were just sitting and chatting, not bothering anyone, yet he treated us with complete disrespect. The chef’s arrogant and unprofessional behavior ruined what was supposed to be a special celebration. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this place. It’s as if the chef expects customers to sit there like silent wooden statues, giving him constant eye contact. This isn’t dining; it’s a ridiculous show of authoritarian control.

An incredibly intimate omakase experience. Chef Fumi provided a memorable night, regaling the table with stories and creating delicate pieces for us to enjoy. The toro and sea urchin stood out from the vast array of dishes presented, but it was hard to pick a favorite

Wonderful first time trying Omakase! Everything was purposefully, prepared and honored. We tried great, warm umami broths and then had amazing fresh and aged fish. It was so fun trying all the dishes and Chef Fumi and Shin were so nice to talk with, they made it a fun atmosphere. We loved learning about the different dishes. It was for my birthday and I would say it’s great for a special occasion and culinary experience. The dishes and presentation was so nice too! We loved the sake choices too! Thank you for a wonderful meal :)

I came here for lunch omakase over 6 months ago and still think about this place! The chefs were friendly, service was wonderful, the restaurant itself was clean and had a nice calming vibe, and the sushi was everything you would want in an omakase experience. I personally like simple flavors and not too many sauces that distract from the fish, and each course, I thought was perfect. any flavors were perfect compliments to bring out the natural freshness and taste of the fish. I didn’t feel like any course was a “filler” course, we kept saying each one that came out was our favorite. I have had many omakase experiences where I left feeling unsure whether it was worth the price but this place was absolutely worth every penny. I only wish I lived closer! Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

I’ve tried the omakase lunch twice and both times, in my opinion, deserved five stars. The food was heavenly. It’s almost under stating to say everything was so fresh. The flavors combined with the textures of each offering was what sent me over the edge. Chef was masterful in the delicate balance of textures and flavors. Attention was paid to every detail, not only to the food but to the service. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants for Japanese cuisine.

Absolutely sublime! This is the finest dining experience I've had and I'm so glad that I was able to enjoy it with family and friends during our first trip to Los Angeles. Not typically one for subtlety, every plate, bowl, cut, and dish was a work of art and incredibly delicious. Chef Fumi, Chef Masa, and Jon took time to describe everything so well and attended to every detail. A tremendous joy. I cannot wait to have a reason to return. Thank you

My husband and I were invited to be guests by his clients who frequent this restaurant. We even hired a driver to take us from Newport Coast. It is a fancy omakase with 2 seatings. We were the second seating at 8:15 pm. We arrived 15 minutes early and were told to wait outside until 8:15. There's a Wing Stop next door and it's not a fancy place.
Since we were going to a business dinner and as guests we had a lot to discuss. My husband had to sit turned away from the chef in order to face his clients. The seating was a bar and not a table top where we could face one another. About 30 minutes into the service the server who is a co owner came over and asked us to quiet down. We thought it was odd because we were not louder than the other 2 couples at the restaurant.

Then about 10 minutes later he served me shrimp even though he asked me what my allergies were before service began. So my husband ate it and then suddenly the chef started to scold my husband and was upset telling him he was rude bc he wasn't facing him and bc he was talking business and not paying attention to him!
We were all shocked and self corrected right away. But the damage was done and the entire room felt awkward and tense.
Then about 15 minutes later he said service was over for us and to leave.
So we left but the clients asked to speak with the co owner outside. They were mortified and so were we.
The chef then walked out and said we couldn't complain bc he didn't charge us.
The whole evening was ruined and he ruined it for the other guests in the restaurant too. If you want to go there and actually have a conversation then it's clearly not the right choice. You have to be focused on him the entire time and you're not allowed to pay attention to anyone else but him. They could have warned us in advance or put on their website their expectations. But for a chef to start throwing a tantrum like a toddler is nonsense.

As for the food, it's nothing to write home about. If i had to compare apples to apples: Sushi Sho in Hawaii is better. Masa in NYC is better. And you can actually enjoy yourselves there as well. Buyer beware!

My husband and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. However, the chef rudely kicked us out and scolded us, accusing us of not appreciating his service. He even asked if we had ever tried omakase before. When we said we had, he asked, "Which one? Kaneyoshi?" I'm not sure what his point was in mentioning another restaurant. I guess this is why they haven't received a Michelin star.

Chef Fumi, Chef Roe, and Jon delivered a memorable, intimate omakase experience. Both food and service were both top notch. (And I’d say the service especially so.) Dishes that stood out for me were:
* Osuimono
* Aori ika
* Dry aged chutoro
* Sesame tofu with Hokkaido uni
* Uni rice temaki
* Nodoguro

If I’m being honest, I struggle to call it a good value for what you get, but it is perhaps a fair value considering how expensive everything has gotten due to inflation. (Bear in mind that the last time I had omakase was a couple years ago, and I don’t have it very often, so my expectations might be misplaced and my palate not refined enough.) Nevertheless, highly recommended for a special occasion.
