Went for an Omakase. Chef Fumi was very friendly yet professional. Really high quality ingredients and the uni was the best I’ve ever had.

Chef Fumio is truly one of the best sushi chefs in LA. He always serves the highest-quality seafood, with perfect cuts and beautifully aged fish. Beyond the food, he warmly welcomes everyone and is always great to chat with—so knowledgeable about sushi and Japanese culture. Listening to him share made every visit even more special. Kogane became a place I loved to return to many times a year, whether for celebrations or just a regular evening. Thank you, Chef Fumio, for creating so many unforgettable memories—you will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

This is a 8 persons seating sushi bar with few side tables restaurant. The fish is very thin cut, I can’t taste the fishes sweetness. on the other hand I tasted little sour of soy sauce. We have been to many Japanese omakase restaurants never had fish such thin cut. I was upset all night. I didn’t express anything. I told my husband I will never visit Kogane again. The price is so expensive $300/person plus tax and tips.

Ignore the bad reviews on here simply because I don’t think any of those people have had traditional omakase before, they were new to the experience, and didn’t know how it works. I’ve done omakase more than 10 times, and this is hands down the best experience I’ve ever had!
We were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday, and Chef Fumi is incredible!! Not only for his skill and creativity with each dish, but also for the warmth and personality he brought!
I was filming the entire time and asking so many endless questions about the ingredients, and he was super patient. He was so social, engaging, and funny, and cracking jokes throughout the night with us and the other guests!
Every course was thoughtful, beautifully prepared, and absolutely delicious. The omakase course we had was $300, and you could see how much love Chef Fumi put into each plate.
As a tip, arrive a few minutes early because each dish is time sensitive. We got there 5 minutes early, got seated on the dot of our appointment time, and was served immediately!

Excellent excellent dinner. We celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday here and they made him feel special. The dinner was expertly orchestrated and watching the chef prepare each course was an experience in itself. Everything was so precise and intentional. A dinner we will remember for a long time.

Highly recommend this place for the okamase vibe. First time having this kind of dining.

I had some reservations about this place because of comments on small pieces and others getting kicked out. I was worried for nothing.

The pieces were so delicious. I don't have the best palette, but I really enjoyed the flavors and tectures of each dish. The amount of fish per serving was small, yes, but it jjust kept coming. I was full by the end. Loved the uni. Loved the red snapper (i assumed) with the sea grapes. Each one that came out was honestly a new favourite.

The service was great. The chef was sociable, the server was attending to our needs.

The atmosphere, you have to understand that you are in the presence of a chef. Eating their food in front of them. The remarks of people getting kicked out were most likely justifiable. Don't be on your phone yapping and ordering food from other places. Be respectful. Common sense has gotten less common i guess.

Again. Highly recommended place for okamase. Absolutely enjoyed my time here.

The sushi is delicious but Im giving 3 stars for the value. For $150 (after tax/tip) you can get a better deal elsewhere. Their sushi pieces are tiny and you only get like 13. If I brought any of my friends here theyd get so mad at me

Refund to the customer paid deposit but your chief kick them out during dinner with ridiculous reason! Remember people going there to have food and as chief receive payment, the first lesson is learnto respect your customer not RUDE!

Terrible. We were kicked out just because we were talking quietly among ourselves. Apparently, if you’re not staring at the chef the whole time, you’re not welcome. No warning, no deposit refund. It felt more like a cult than a dinner. Absolutely ridiculous and disrespectful.

This place is a gem! Came here with my cousin for a lunch omakaze! EVERYTHING was delicious. Recommend the sake flight to pair with the meal. The tamago as a meal finisher was kawaii and a total surprise! Everything super fresh and the atmosphere was perfect. Would recommend for everyone!

I recently went to Kogane to celebrate my birthday with friends, and it was an absolute disaster. After just one course of the Omakase, the chef rudely kicked us out for no reason at all. We were just sitting and chatting, not bothering anyone, yet he treated us with complete disrespect. The chef’s arrogant and unprofessional behavior ruined what was supposed to be a special celebration. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this place. It’s as if the chef expects customers to sit there like silent wooden statues, giving him constant eye contact. This isn’t dining; it’s a ridiculous show of authoritarian control.

An incredibly intimate omakase experience. Chef Fumi provided a memorable night, regaling the table with stories and creating delicate pieces for us to enjoy. The toro and sea urchin stood out from the vast array of dishes presented, but it was hard to pick a favorite

Wonderful first time trying Omakase! Everything was purposefully, prepared and honored. We tried great, warm umami broths and then had amazing fresh and aged fish. It was so fun trying all the dishes and Chef Fumi and Shin were so nice to talk with, they made it a fun atmosphere. We loved learning about the different dishes. It was for my birthday and I would say it’s great for a special occasion and culinary experience. The dishes and presentation was so nice too! We loved the sake choices too! Thank you for a wonderful meal :)

I came here for lunch omakase over 6 months ago and still think about this place! The chefs were friendly, service was wonderful, the restaurant itself was clean and had a nice calming vibe, and the sushi was everything you would want in an omakase experience. I personally like simple flavors and not too many sauces that distract from the fish, and each course, I thought was perfect. any flavors were perfect compliments to bring out the natural freshness and taste of the fish. I didn’t feel like any course was a “filler” course, we kept saying each one that came out was our favorite. I have had many omakase experiences where I left feeling unsure whether it was worth the price but this place was absolutely worth every penny. I only wish I lived closer! Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
